Phase II : Ties are in

The tie gangs have finished the main track on Phase II between Birdsboro and Coatesville.  All the main track is tied, plus the sidings and the majority of industry trackage.  There are still a few industry tracks to get planned out, but they aren't essential to start operations.  All the ties have been sanded and restained.

Monday, 4/6, the ballast gangs report for duty and with any luck, later this week rail gangs will start laying rail.

RR Communication in the 70s

How did crews communicate with the dispatcher and tower operators in the seventies?

How did a yard switcher talk to a dispatcher?

What did railroad communication look like in the seventies?

Thanks!

Speaker recommendation?...Bass sounds

I saw this speaker recommendation on a Soundtraxx forum. Has anyone else had any experiences with such an item?

Peco static grass not working.

Peco static grass not working.

It keeps clumping up and won't go through screen of grass applicator.

Try to un clump it in the coffee grinder and it still clumps up.

Break it up with fingers and it still clumps up in grass applicator.

Put a little rock in the grass applicator and it still clumps up and won't go through the screen.

Slow Speed Control with Analog DC: What Equipment is Best?

I'm convinced that you don't need DCC to achieve slow speed running. That said, it seems you need a smooth controller and a very smooth engine.

What engines and what controllers work the best for slow speed DC operation?

Any insights into DC slow speed control?

Jammed gearbox

My first loco - a Life Like Proto 2000 GP9/18 which I have picked away at over the years to make more prototypical-ish - ran like a dream on both DC and DCC until two days ago. Since I have never had a layout until recently, it has had perhaps a couple of dozen metres of running, total.

So the other day, testing it between wiring in the speaker and adding the lights, it just stopped dead, buzzing. Reversing it took it a little distance, then stopped again. If I lift one end so the truck idles in the air, it jumps once per rotation.
