Re-thinking and re-doing Highfield

Now that the Lehigh Cement Co. and the Union Bridge street running scene are done except for the fine detailing, My attention has turned to the other end of the layout: Highfield.  Highfield is where the two mainlines of the Western Maryland merged and currently where the Maryland Midland interchanges with CSX.  It consists of three sidings, but I think the wye is long gone.  The often photographed Highfield Train order office sat where the two lines merged.  Here is a map of the prototype area.

Variety of Small Motor/Drive Units

A few years ago I was looking at various small loco drive units that have existed in the past,...and newer modifications that folks have applied to them. If I recall properly I was wondering how one might repower/redrive little docksider steam locos, and more recently what could be done to those athearn hustlers.

Turns out I had found this discussion that including a number of these different locos. I thought others might find theses discussions of interest?

An awesome layout I filmed right before the lockdown...

Last March, only a couple weeks before the first lockdown, I was able to visit and film this amazing layout. The owner also owns a 1:1 scale CN caboose, which I've included at the end of the video. Enjoy!

Photograph Colorization

I just saw a post from Tim over on the blog post labeled "The NKP Freight House Spur in Canton, OH", which I believe isn't getting enough attention and could be its own blog post, in regards to a gem found by Chris Adams, which lists colorizing B&W photos.

Included Parts in 20-year old Athearn Locomotives

A quick question for you Old Heads out there:

I'm trying to sell two 20 year old Athearn diesel locomotives.  I think they are both new old stock.  But looking in the boxes there are no add-on parts like handrails or brake cylinders.  There are a couple of wires that look like they may be handrails.  But there is a list of these kind of parts under a sidebar to the exploded parts diagram labeled "Additional Parts."

Paint recommendation requested

I'm looking for what would be the best paint to repaint some Walthers AMTRAK cars from the early silver paint to a realistic metal paint like they're selling them with now.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Rework of the chemical plant in Cantwell

I know these two images are oriented differently from each other

But watcha think?

Engine facility structures associated with oil burning steam locos

Want to include whatever scenic elements apply to the engine servicing yard for an oil burning steam loco.  I've searched around on the web and found pictures/structures of the stand pipe for fueling the tender.  However, are there more elements associated with the servicing equipment (e.g., where the oil is stored; how it is pumped; how it is conveyed to the fueling stand pipe).  Photos of a prototype yard would be most beneficial.

Bingham’s Early Mine Operation.

We go back in time and look at the early mining operation at Bingham Canyon mine.
