Bad news: another engine failure on the OCR

While running around the loop, Boston and Maine GE 44- tonner (ex-NP 628) cut out, and is stuck in neutral! With 110 out of the running, the only available power for mainline trains is the GP38-2 still undergoing a re-do, the 8304 (Rock Island), and the 2026. The 1684 is currently waiting on a tender repair, and all other locos besides the RDC car are broken down for some reason. The road needs a diesel at current, so the shop crew has decided to try repairing DT&I 8111 again.

Siskiyou Line progress - #2

I've made some progress since my last blog entry, but not the progress I was expecting.

I ended up taking a detour because I asked a very important question: where would the signals go between Sutherlin and Oakland. Turns out, it's very fortunate I thought to ask this question, because the result saved me a ton of grief later.

Making a small 3-rail layout with less "toy like" appearance

A couple things. I sold a New York Central Dressel lantern i had been looking to sell for a while, and made $60 off of it. Then, this morning I used that money to get a railroad lantern I wanted Waaaaaaaaay more: a Boston & Maine Railroad lantern with a marked globe! Yes! It is a Deitz vesta, and is in very nice condition. I've been waiting a while for one of these to come up on ebay for a reasonable offer(less than $70). Also, my trackwork has been inching along.

Cleaning up the power wiring -- hopefully for the last time

As work on the control panel continued, I realized that my power distribution wiring was not as clean as I would have hoped. Some occupancy zones would detect properly and some just would not. And if I did the quarter test in some places more than one PM42 feed would trip. I had already decided that there should be a 1:1 relationship between PM42s and BDL168 zones -- bought a second PM42 and installed it, This exposed a number of issues that had probably been there all along. Some of my track wiring was a mess.

Magazine Collection "show off" area

Well I did a bit of digging around to find a past topic like this and I was surprised not to nobody that I know of has made a post showing their magazine collections. I thought this would be useful for people who want to show off there collections (i know most of you probably want to)

Please note the post it notes in the issues simply mark ads and stuff I want to remember, that is all.

Locomotive Sounds

Hi I am looking for a source of MP3´s of Locomotive train sounds of generic steam and diesel locomotives along with just train sounds to play from an iPhone when running a layout due to the fact that I don´t have DCC if anyone knows where I can find some that would be great.

Engine Problem

1st of all they really should add a help topic choice for I am sure it would be well used.

2nd of all my problem.

The locomotive in question is an all metal engine with pickups in the tender I am not sure if it is shorting but it sparks as it goes around and it stops and starts. Do you think it is something with the tender wheels? I will hopefully get pictures up soon.
