i am also testing one of my new dc locos, a kato sd70mac.

none of the track is secured yet, i see a change i want to do, change one of my cross-overs from a left to a right.
my bad on the last move, i was going to the right track to begin with. i also didn't show the moves to the industries to the south of the yard.

Construction of the Second Spline Helix - Part 3 - DCC Testing

I finally finished the second of two spline helices for my N-scale layout that is under construction.  I have included a video, this time with sound, since it is a sound equipped engine, that shows the results of the first DCC test of the second helix.

update #4.... yard trackage!!!!

to all .....i have been messing around test fitting my yard & surrounding industry tackage..so far everything is working out as per my drawing. i stand corrected for miss- naming one of my industries it's SAN PLUMBING SUPPLY not SUN...the area to the right of "FLEX FOAM" i will be adding some more frame work so i can put a few sky-scrapers to represent phoenix proper.i also added some LED lighting & a piece of back drop at the hole in the wall
enjoy the video & thanks for watching

O scale relative to HO question

Am I right in assuming that a 12'X18" layout would upsize to 24'X36" in O scale?  I am thinking about moving to O for an urban switching yard 25'x20' along 2 walls.

Thanks,

David

Track Plan development in 3-D

After considering everyone's comments and suggestions thing have been slowly progressing. While the journey is enjoyable, I am eager to get some trains running. Below are some shots of progress to date.

This seems to be a good spot as any to document construction so may stay here (with exception to my normal diversions). It is changing as I build and learn more. Less is more.

The plan is scaled up from HO to On30 in my 16'x24' room (outside dimensions).

Kaslo and Slocan part 3

After a delay while we were designing a new benchwork system, the Kaslo & Slocan is off and running again. The benchwork is a modification of a system that was first described in the Jan. and Feb. issues of Model Railroader. Yes I know I'm dating myself but the issue called Bookcase Model Railroad has intrigued me ever since I read it. In fact in the early 90's I made several of the modules to validate the system. The design worked except is was very heavy and the shelf brackets available at the time were difficult to install and didn't offer the bracket lengths available today.

From Stagnant to Steaming: Revise, Refurbish, Expand & Finish an HO layout

Last month (May), a man contacted me through our shared Local Hobby Shop:  He had a 3'x16' HO layout that was half done.  He also had grandsons who are 7- and 8-years old and who really wanted to run trains with Grandpa.

The challenge was that, ever since being diagnosed with cancer a year ago, between the chemo and the medication he just didn't have the energy to continue work on the layout.  So he needed a strapping young man with the muscles and know-how to get the layout done and running well.
