Layout design
Need Advice on Layout Design
Hi All,
Have just moved and now have much more space for a layout, as well as knowing we will be here for about 7 years at least. Since I wasn't too far along with my N scale modular layout, I've decided to make the jump to HO now that I have enough space to do what I want.
I have a wall in the basement that is about 30ft long - I'd like to do a 'shelf' layout - support from the walls rather than leg benchwork - and perhaps make it 2ft or so wide. Both ends would have turns, either dog-bone style, or a loop if there is enough room to hide tracks at the back of the shelf.
Some imput needed on yard design
I've been experimenting with different yard designs and seem to be settling on this one. I could use some comments on usability, design. I'm not much of an operations person, but I do want a functional yard.

LAYOUT UPDATE #9b
this video shows tentative places for my industries. the track is not secure as of yet, still doing a bit of tweaking. over all the track is going down as per my drawing. one thing is for sure, no matter how much room you have, you always need more. I don't know why the camera kept going out of focus towards the end. I also mis named Phoenix as STP it actually is SFP Plastics. sorry these old eyes are going out...lol. enjoy the vid & as always your comments, questions & subs are welcome
thanks for watching

Portable, temporary HO layout that can exist outdoors
Aloha all,
Here's the nuts and bolts. Summer means very little indoor model railroading (especially in the Northern climates where summer means the outside is finally celebrated with less than 5 layers of clothing).
Richlawn RR V2 - Trackplan modified HOG draft version
A friend of mine has been helping me by doing CAD work on my trackplan which is a modification of Scott Perry's Heart of Georgia (HOG) layout. This is a rough draft and isn't labeled but you can get a general idea. I purposely am going with a simple layout to allow space for my pull out desk since this is also my office. The orange track running around the top and right is an isolated Doodlebug track.Doodlebug track.
CN Longview Sub
Well it has been almost a year since my last post, so I thought I would give an update as to my progress on the CN Longview Sub. The first post and a brief outline of the layout can be found here. http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/8764
Right of Way Acquired!
We've started moving in to our new house, so I have now secured the ROW. Here's a picture of the future home of my Los Angeles Junction Railway:
Finally, back to it!
I have finally been able to break away and start a new office layout. Well... more of a display now. But, maybe you all can help? I want to do some rock wall work and things to make it look interesting, but have no idea if there are any prototype examples of track-work that is separated by multiple levels of retaining walls?

Building a Layout One Module at a Time
I've been a little behind in reading the magazine, so it was just a couple of days ago that I read Joe Fugate's column The "One-Module" Challenge (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/magazine/mrh-2013-05-may/rr_one-modul...).
