Construction of the Second Spline Helix & Hidden Staging Area - Progress Update
SPLINE HELIX UPDATE: Back a few months ago, someone asked about how engines and cars would be prevented from falling off of the helix. Originally, I thought about using cardboard or hardboard strips. However, their use would have reduced the narrow opening between helix turns so I looked around the garage and found some left over screening (nylon or fiberglass). I also bought some white poster board from a local office supply.
Modelling Bridgewater, South Australia in 1:87
Hi All,
This here is a blog, that will follow the development of my new exhibition layout, based on the prototype location of Bridgewater in the Adelaide Hills. Originally, this station was a terminus for suburban services over the steeply graded Mt Lofty Ranges, east of Adelaide, however with the opening of a new freeway, allowing commuters to travel to Adelaide in less than 20 minutes, the passenger services were cut back to Belair (on the Adelaide side of the ranges).
Car float apron track details
I have built the Walthers Cornerstone car float kit 933-3152. The car float apron kit 933-3068 is unavailable. Can anyone provide track details from this apron such that I can build my own apron..?
The Modern Era
Thanks IAISfan for the suggestion about Lance Mindheim. I do read his blog, and I've already got two of his books. His incredibly realistic modern era modeling is one of my inspirations - although I dare say Los Angeles is every bit as interesting a modeling subject as Miami.
Waiting and Planning
After too many years of not even having room to store a module, I'm finally going to be able to build a real layout. My wife and I are moving into a new house where I'll have an entire spare bedroom to use as a combined office and layout room. Okay, so I won't have room to model the entire BNSF Southern Transcon, but I'm still excited. The new place also has plenty of space for a workshop in the garage, and a big enough yard that we can have a dog.
Anyone used SCARM?
I recently downloaded a Railroad CAD program called S C A R M and was planing to utilize it to scetch up some N-Scale track plans for my 10'x10' Office/Bedroom. Has anyone else used it and is it useful at all?
Analysis paralysis
Maybe I'm over thinking this relatively simple track plan for a switching module, but I'll put this up for discussion anyway:
Based on my fondness of a) covered hoppers and b) modern box cars I planned this module as a ca. 1980 injection molding facility. Previous incarnations of this plan had separate tracks for the platics pellets hoppers and the box cars. Those incarnations also ate way more space than I actually have available so I decided to keep things simple and have everything on one spur track.
