Something you don't see often

Well, for as often as you seen Civil War era modeling, at least.

Anyway, there are several railroad photos in this but look for the huge windmill used for pumping water for the water tank.

Roof walks

When dd the railroads start removing the roof walks off of freight cars.

You never know where you will find information on your prototype

Eric Gagnon (http://tracksidetreasure.blogspot.ca/) posted a link on the Canadian railway modelers Facebook page with a link to the Everett Baker slide collection held by the Saskatchewan Historic and Folklore Society (www.shfs.ca ).  It has wonderful 1940's vintage shots of rural Saskatchewan life with a fair amount of railway content of particular interest to modelers such as grain elevators, stockyards, rural town views and quite a number of trains.

Bonhomie & Hattiesburg Southern RR steam RR under Thundering Skies.

About the 70,s in the UK I had a Vinyl recording of the Bonhomie & Hattiesburg Southern RR "Steam RR under Thundering Skies.". It was those sounds that brought me to US Railroading. The only thing I can find is Vinyl I no longer have a record player so it would have to be tape or CD.

if anyone has any leads I would appreciate them

Algoma Central Railway Operations Series

I've started a new series on my Algoma Central modeling blog which will consist of several posts/mini-articles over the next month or so about various aspects of the operations on this northern Ontario railway.

Fans of the ACR should enjoy this series, or if you even just have a passing interest in the operations of a regional wilderness railway, come give it a peak.

Introductory Post (includes an overview map of the area for orientation)

Ideas for small switching layout? (Decided on design I think)

I am looking for ideas that I could use for a small 2'x5' switching layout. I have that much space in my room and am trying to plan as much as possible to pitch the idea to my parents.
