Box car era question

I few years ago I bought these Yardmaster  Branchline box cars:

Both are generically described as HO 40' 1937 AAR Boxcar- which is my era.

However they both have build dates in the early 40s.

Question is, would these be ok to use (obviously as new condition) box cars on a 1937 railroad?

Fiberglass vs. Stamped Steel Grain Hopper Hatches

Does anyone have info on what material a particular hatch type on a covered hopper is made of, and how to identify such hatch covers from each other.  From what I understand there are both fiberglass and stamped steel covers.  I'm interested to know because it would make for an interesting weathering feature.  Fiberglass hatches would not rust, but stamped steel ones would.  Also when did they start applying fiberglass hatch covers?

Thanks for any info.

Ned Help -- Correct Canon & Co. fans for SP SD-9 and GP-9's

Hello all,

I'd like to replace the fans on my P2K SD9 and GP9's but I'm having trouble knowing which ones would be appropriate. I do' not see a correct replacement from Canon and company listed. Which 36 and 48 would work for mid 70's GRIP program 9E/R's?

Also referencing the picture in the link below there is an odd flat top 36" fan on the rear of this GP9. What would be appropriate?

Uncoupler lever

Dear fellows,

I would like to make uncouple levers from scratch for my SD9E, SD45-T2 and some freight cars but I need the measures of the real prototypes or the H0 measures. I have been searching on the web but I wasn´t lucky. Does somebody have this information?

Many thanks in advanced!

Alejandro

Frost on the pumpkin

Saw something cool this morning that I wish I could have gotten a picture of. Several black Corn Syrup tank cars in a yard near my home had frost on the top of the cars. The top and just a foot or so down the sides. Looked really cool, the white frost on the black cars. It'll be gone soon but maybe tomorrow or the next day I can catch a shot.

Transporting wood treatment chemicals by rail?

Fellow modelers,

This is my first post on this forum so I'm hoping I did everything right.  I've been a modeler for many years and I'm returning to HO after modeling on the dark side of On30 for the past 10 years.

Abandoned spurs

All

I seem to remember reading somewhere that sometimes railroads will abandon a spur track but leave the track in place. They just remove the switch. I want to model that on my new layout so I need some pictures. Anyone have any idea where I might be able to locate such photos?

Thanks and Happy New Year to one and all.

switch sizes

Being I am researching on the new layout, and did a search on here, but was not able to find the info, but I was wondering if anyone has the relation of sizes from HO scale to 1:1 for #6, 8 and 10 switches.  Any help would be great and appreciated.  I am looking at using a min of #6 or 8 on the new layout which will fit into a 30x 30 room
