Prototype Pictures for practicing Mike Confalone Weathering

First my thanks to Mike for a great series, I am anxious to try out some of his techniques on my HOn3 rolling stock. In the mean time my wife and I just returned from a trip to Alaska and I was able to get a few shots that may inspire someone out there to give Mike's methods a shot.

Wooden Grain elevator

Hi all

I'm looking at laser cutting a wooden grain elevator to fit my Northern Montana Milwaukee road layout. My issue is do i get 'flat' wooden siding engraved in to the pieces, or do i use the laser cutting and laminate it with clapboard siding. I'd like to go with engraving as its quicker, easier and maybe cheaper.

Who will be the first?

To build a narrow gauge crossing a standard gauge railroad like this? I think it would make for an interesting model.

How much do the parts of a freight car truck weigh?

Anyone know how much the individual components of a prototype freight truck weigh on average?  Wheels (33"/36"), axles, side frames, springs, etc.?  The reason I ask is that I've seen many dioramas where the builder scatters such parts about with no regard to how they might end up there given it might take a small football team to lift them.  Likewise in models of locomotive/car repair shops where I worry about the weight bearing limits of the shop floor...

Containers on bulkhead flatcars

   HI all,

I saw this interesting flatcar load last week. I don't know how they got the container on there, or why, but I thought it was worth sharing.

Can somebody please help me with the following dimensions:

- width of the cab side

I can find drawings on line, but none with dimensions to scale from.

Thanks for your help!

Junction / Interchange

Hi @all,

For our fremo division, I want to build a module and need your help.

Please imagine: a double OR a single track main and a branch junction, with interchange between them, best in the south east.

Does somebody have a link to photographs, or a name with which I can make a research with google earth.

Thanks! smiley

1954 railroad film noir: "Human Desire" has much prototype action

Glenn Ford is an engineer, Broderick Crawford an assistant yardmaster with anger management problems in the film now showing on the GetTV network. Hot babes, 1954 style.  Murder and adultery ensue.

Great prototype scenes of railroad activity filmed on the Rock Island in El Reno, OK.  Want to see a PA turn on a turntable?  It's here.  Yard office scenes, rip tracks, arrivals and departures.  Maintenance.  Close ups of trucks, car interiors.
