   HI all,

I saw this interesting flatcar load last week. I don't know how they got the container on there, or why, but I thought it was worth sharing.

Hmmm.

Any container crane or sideloader would be able to get the container on that car, I suspect the reason for it being on a flatcar (bulkheads are probably irrelevant)  is because the destination is a location that only has a forklift for getting the container off. Hard to use a forklift on a well car.

It may also not be owned by the container company anymore, and is headed somewhere that it will be used for storage or whatnot. The car itself appears older and well-used, and not even bearing the usual labels - I wonder if this is just a big toolbox for a MOW train?

It can be done...

I'm SO glad the pic of the container on a 2 footer is here--THANKS!  Now i know that it's possible; I started building a well car for the Great North Central-the Maine 2-footers surviving to modern days...

I have actually seen that.

I have actually seen that. Actually where I saw it the container's rear end was closer to the bulkhead. When I inquired about it I was told that the car was to spotted at a loading ramp and the container was not going to be off loaded, but emptied by folklift while still on the car.

Always more than one way to skin a cat.

Maintenance Of Way

That's a good point I did not bring up,

This car is strictly in MOW service, and (as far as I know) has not been in interchange service for about 35 years.
