Moving car without engine

Are there any means in modern times to move a freight car without an engine?

Let's assume there is an industry which receives some bulk material in a covered hopper. It can be unloaded in an underground bunker, but only one outlet at the same time, then the car has to be moved until the next outlet is over the bunker.

SPSF Meadow Sub: Union Pacific SW1500 for the UP Transfer

I wanted to add a little variety to my UP transfer, so I decided to model another locomotive that could be paired with the GP38-2 and would be swapped with the CNW GP15-1.  This project took exactly one week to complete and it helped that I started with a model that had already been detailed fairly well.

Proto Weathering Help

Hi guys.  I'm wanting to weather an Accurail D&RGW Cookie Box Car and for the life of my internet searches I can't find any prototype photos for guidance.  Everything comes up out of the box models images.  I'll be real embarrassed if this is one of those "manufacturer licensing jobs" that never really existed.  But then, I can go to town at that point and get jiggy wit it...!  What the "H".. I'm a blues dude and I just used "jiggy"... Help?!?!

Thanks in Advance...Jeff El 1964

Part #4, Railroad Maintenance of Way

Railroad Maintenance of Way

To All; I captured this CSX car on film at Saginaw, Michigan in the 1990's. It is CSXT Classroom car #940203, rebuilt from C&O MoW Kitchen Car #K102 (originally Army troop kitchen car #K376). Thanks to Tony/thor73 and the link for the information on this car This car would be a fun kit bash or scratch build.  Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail Group Layout.

Is it prototypical practice to pass industries?

Is it prototypical for a mixed consist train en route to a classification yard to pass customers that may be receiving some of those cars? Meaning would the railroad sort those cars for delivery in the yard first or would they know in advance that those cars need to be placed and just spot them where necessary? Here's why I ask:

Thaw Your Frozen Coal

The local power company is highlighting the coal operations at one of the plants.

This article describes the process of thawing coal that has frozen into the hoppers and won't unload.

The "Thaw Shed" might be an interesting addition to the operations at a coal plant.

About 1/2 was down the page is a short video showing the cars moving over the heaters.

Part #8, Railroad Signs & Signals

Railroad Signs & Signals

To All: Some railroads proudly display a company sign near their headquarters or yard office. I captured this one on film at Vassar, Michigan (in the Thumb Area) in the 1980's. This was the location of the original TSBY lines, later sold to Huron & Eastern RR. Why not install a company sign(s) on your layout? Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. Train Room Artwork

I got around to putting up some artwork in the "train room" and wanted to share it with others in the community.
