Weekend Photo Fun 5-10 to 5-12

Post your Modeling photo's here.

Just--WOW!!!

I am just amazed that the friendliness and helpfulness of people on this board.  I'm very used to friendly and knowledgeable people here and elsewhere--but the post I got in reply to a question is just wonderful.

I am looking for some passenger car widths for the old Maine 2 footers, and Stephen, who lives near there, offered to stop by and measure.  I had to say something where hopefully all would see it...THANKS!  It's great to be part of such a fantastic online community.

Has anyone heard of HOn4.5?

I saw some models in "HOn4.5" scale on Shapeways--has anyone heard of it?  If it's as small as it looks, a dummy or two might look decent as detail in a small factory.

Recycling material - my explanation or apology.

Lately I have been posting material that I previously posted as it seems with the great influx of new viewers / members that they haven't seen it before. I'm starting to sound like some of those paper mags that repeat. On one hand I don't want to miss giving info to those who want it, but on the other hand I don't want to bore those that have already seen / heard it. Case in point: I just posted a link to background sound files (free) that I posted previously.

What to do?

Shapeways question

There's been a lot of mention of Shapeways 3D printing.  I'd consider myself an intermediate modeler, skill wise--my scratchbuild Climax in my blog should give an idea of where I am, skillwise.  How easy is Shapeways material to finish--and how smooth are things like boilers fresh out of a UPS package?  How durable is it, also--are trucks strong enough to actually stand up to operations?  And small details like HO bells and whistles--are they viable, or should I use other sources for those?

Weekend Photo Fun 5/4-5/5

Maybe I'm jumping the gun here since I'm in Afghanistan and it's already 4pm on Saturday. But here's a photo of the latest progress on my Hammerjacks Free-mo module business district. The whole thing is mounted to a piece of Gatorfoam so I can ship it home when I'm done.

The Wrecker. . . A Clive Cussler Novel

My wife and I were driving back from Vegas and we decided to listen to an audio book.  My wife chose, "The Wrecker", by Clive Cussler.  She said it's a Clive Cussler book with a trains!  You'll like it.

We are only half way through the book but we are enjoying it immensely.  I don't want to give away too much but it deals with the Southern Pacific during the begining of the 20th Century and a "villian" out to destroy the SP.

Very enjoyable and a lot of good train details.

Enjoy!

Painting brass--how do I do it?

I've never worked with brass before, and I'll be painting some brass tubing for my little Climax.  What paints do I use?
