Save or Sell Your Extra Rolling Stock

What do you do with your extra rolling stock?

I find myself with a few extra cars than what I need to operate my paper mill layout.

My last layout was half built before I made the switch to this one. It was going to include an ethanol plant.

- As a result. I have some extra Athearn 30,000G tank cars for ethanol service, and Walthers 67' Trinity 4 bay hoppers for Corn or DDGS.

- I can use a few of the 30,000G tank cars for Tall Oil and Turpentine by-products from the paper mill, but that is about it.

Choice of locale & scales (HO vs On30) for a freelance Old-west / Early rail layout.

Hi everyone,

I have been meaning for some time, to test the waters with a sort of free-lance* old-west themed layout. It will start as a small 40" x 60" island type oval layout, and at some point it will hopefully develop into a more fully fledged layout below my main HO scale layout (late 60s California prototypical).

I have in mind scenes that i remember from old western movies (nothing in particular, just the hazy memories), in combination to scenes from theme park railroads like the Big Thunder Mountain.

Rookie Mistake or blinded by hype?

Okay so I bought a few BLI Locos: 2 GE ES44AC & 2 EMD SD70ACe Paragon 3 sound.  I am new to the Hobby but learn fast.  I have an NCE Power Cab & auto switch for the program track section, no problems programming the Locos and verifying the functions.  The problem is: I bought the Rolling Thunder Receiver to use with a powered sub (Klipsch) that I own.  The Locos will not communicate with the BLI Rolling Thunder receiver, I have gone through the CV's in the Locos, connected the BLI RX to the program track and set the recommended CV's on Pages 19-21 th

On18 Micro mine Layout...many lessons learned and many personal firsts

Sometimes it is good to step a bit out of your comfort zone, sometimes you dive right in head first. I joined a gaming group as I was enticed by their monthly friendly competitions to build terrain. This is more for miniatures and war gaming, but scenery is scenery.
