Talent Fire - Micro Trains - status update

Anyone know the status of Micro Trains after the Talent Fire?

Painting Track on the Bench

I went to great lengths to get the track the way I always wanted it and taking time to do it on the bench was really the ticket. I don't think I have any photos of the process but it starts with spray bombing all the flex pieces with Rustoleum or Krylon flat brown (on a tarp layed on the garage floor) and then to the bench for all kinds of layers, scraping some layers to reveal colors underneath and Bragdon powders.

Im breaking this topic out from another thread

ID these tank cars...

Mission unpossible?  Maybe.

This is an aerial photo from the seventies of the Vigoro nitrogen fertilizer plant in North Bend, Ohio. It's a bad picture, but you can make out several tank cars spotted in the center of the photo. I think these cars were carrying anhydrous ammonia, they don't appear to me to be long enough to be 33,000-gallon LPG-type cars.

But, what are they?

Modules over Casework

Hi everyone,

I am currently refinishing the interior of my garage in Colorado with insulation and new drywall. Thankfully this opens up the opportunity for more layout space!

I am considering putting some of my existing modules on a block of cabinets mounted to casters. Remaining modules would be smaller and shelf mounted. Has this been done or something similar with custom shelves or drawers? I have the tools and ability and was going for a furniture finish level of woodwork. Photos of examples would be appreciated.

Layout Videos, Likes and Dislikes

With placement of the mainline complete, things are starting to progress on the layout.  I plan on taking video of progression stages, operations, etc. and posting to my YouTube channel.

Would like your feedback on what you like in regards to layout videos, what you don’t like, and what keeps you coming back.

For example, I am not a fan of layout videos of an operating session as you have too many people talking in the background. However, I do like narration as long as it is kept to a minimum.

Acrylic wash beading on freight car

Hey all,

I am trying a weathering technique and using a crummy train set frieght car to test on. I cleaned the car with soap and water. I did the roof and the washes stuck fine although I did paint it Tamiya flat aluminum first. The sides of the car though won't take a wash. I am using water and a bit of acrylic paints for the wash. Does anyone know what might causing the issue? The wash just beads up and. Nothing at all sticks to the model.

I appreciate any and all help!

Can a Bachmann Boxcar be saved?

Greetings fellow modelers. I recently picked up some used freight cars, very cheaply, at a small train show. One was an older Bachmann car with the old push in type trucks with the coupler attached to the truck. Not much I can do with the trucks. But I was wondering if anyone has modified an older Bachmann car and was able to put it into revenue service on your layout.

Genesis Spinning Bearing Caps

Athearn Genesis Part numbers 4598 and 4599 are freight truck sets with the spinning bearing caps. Mine are OEM  on Genesis open auto carriers. Even with very careful handling, they appear prone to come off too easily. And as I just completed installation of over 120  vehicles on them, they have very little aggregate run time.
