HLCX Color?

Hi - I'm trying to model a GP38-2 that belongs to the Lake County Railroad.  The color it has is a pretty common one for Helm Leasing GP38's, but I can't seem to match it.  Does anyone know an off-the-shelf color that matches?  I don't mind mixing, but if anyone has used something that works, I'd love to find out which one it is!

Thanks!!!

Heres a pic of the Loco in question:

Forum Friends

An interesting experience I wanted to share.....I consider a lot of people in this forum as 'friends' even though we have never met, and rarely if ever talking directly. It may seem weird but that's how I feel.

Tired of broken plastic details...

I’m tired of replacing fragile plastic details on my engines with other fragile plastic replacements, only to have to replace those over time.  I’ve decided to start an upgrade to metal parts, primarily the cab shades, horns, and radio antennas. Looking fir opinions on who makes the best quality,in terms omg size, detail, and casting? Take the Sinclair radio antenna as an example. I know Details West and Cal Scale make this. I’m sure I’m missing others. Any opinions as to which you would use if going this route?

“Just thinking out loud”

Modeling Fort Smith, Arkansas in the 1970s, I use Google Earth to search for industries switched in that era that “might” still be there.  As a comparison, I have a car spotting guide issued to the switch crews during that time that Include maps that show track layouts for Fort Smith and names/locations of each industry switched. (Although the maps are not to scale)

Going back to a single Free MRH Magazine

First, let me say that I subscribe and regularly read both MRH and RE online magazines and like them both very much. But, I think that MRH is making a huge mistake by having two different magazines. It is confusing for readers, future readers and has to be complicated to publish. Most times when I ask fellow modelers if they read MRH, most have heard about it but are confused and do not read it regularly. Is it free or do you have to pay? If I have to pay, then I want a real paper and print color magazine sent to me, is what I have heard many times.

Who are the moderators? I would like to ask for their advice before posting.

I have to ask who the moderators of the Model Railroad Hobbyist forums are, as I would like to before posting ask for their advice. I think this is helpful as being a member of the Model Railroader forums, I at times ask the mods at times before posting to make sure what they think?

Money vs Time

A recent post got me wondering....

Where do most folks come down on the cost vs time argument.   Traditionally we see in this hobby a lot of do it yourself kind of posts.  At some point I think you could find an article somewhere showing you how to do everything from form you own details for a steam engine to building your own engine to building your own power supply to building your own tools such as a static grass applicator,  As well as things like turnouts and ground foam.

Bench DC power supply safety?

I am shopping for a DC power supply to use to power all of my NCE Switch8 Mk2 boards that will run all my tortoise switch machines.  I don't like the idea of using an internal power supply because of the potential exposure to 110V inputs or the need to put in an enclosure.  I prefer something already enclosed with built in circuit protection and a power cord for the AC input power.

I was thinking of splurging on this:

Inexpensive work light

I found a real bargain for a small portable work light. It is made from the "heart" of the DeWalt DCL040 work light - the LED lamp with hood and built in parabolic reflector.

Details in following post.
