First Layout in 40 Years

Ok, So I started my first N Scale layout in 40 years this week.  I've got the layout marked on the bench, but now I've got a question for the group.  What's the best way to lay roadbed?  This will be a DCC layout with some DC Switches on it.  (Hope to get them upgraded to DCC when I can afford it.)  I've also left plenty of room on the bench for expansion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I will be posting Pictures as I can.

Model Railroading in South Korea 2019

I recently discovered that there actually is a growing model railroad hobby interest here in South Korea. Although it isn't easily ferreted out and trying to run searches for anything train related is very hit and miss. Having several months to follow a bunch of leads has helped. I did discover "The Train" hobby shop in the Yongsan area of Seoul near the train station there. They mostly carry N scale trains, but did have a few HO scale kits to build a Korail Class 8200 electric locomotives, one of which I purchased.

Where would this be delivered?

Where would a transformer this size be delivered?  I'm wondering if it would be appropriate for a university sized power plant, approximately 20,000 students.  What sort of capacity is it? Would it actually go to a power plant or just a sub-station?

Thanks for your thoughts,

Paul

Albany Live Steamers

Visited the Albany Live Steamers a while ago.  3 miles of track in the woods, lots of tunnels and bridges, made for a very fun ride!

I jokingly refer to model railroading as my insanity.  These folks are really nuts!  I love it.

Just getting started and need some pointers

I have a 14 year old son that I need to get going with some new hobbies :) Now, I am not old but certainly no longer in my 30's or 40's and we'll leave it at that :)

I have a large basement with all the room I need:  34 x 32.  I was looking at xtrkcad with some of their layout examples but nothing there impressed me.  I did find the open railroad map to be interesting especially taking into consideration of some places I have lived and vacationed at.

Thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Censorship on the Forums

Here is how it started,...

About a week ago I had a moderator on another train forum delete some postings I placed a subject thread I had started on their forums, Logging Locos, Logging Trackplan etc

I did not see that I had violated their rules, so I started a new subject thread over there, "Censorship on the Forums". That subject thread was immediately LOCKED so no other person could voice their opinions.

Insulated rail jointers versus cutting rail and fill.

I did not find much on the subject

Convert DCC to DC

I'm operating a small switching layout, and initially powered it with a dcc system. All the sounds were there, but since I'm half deaf, were more of an irritation than a fun addition to running trains.

Final Livestream Reminder

Just a reminder that I will be live streaming the final op session tonight in two blocks, 3:30-5:30 and 6:00-8:00. Hope to see you there.

Track planning with google maps

I’m in the planing phase for an around 3 walls freelance industrial switching layout.  I prefer not to compress my industries much.  I do like to know about the prototype for any given industry rather than just making them up.  I have been fussing around in CAD for a while trying to find the best way to lay out the industries I thought I wanted in the space available, and not really converging on something I was happy with.

So I decided to try something completely different.
