Disconnecting and Reconnecting Telegraph/Telephone Wires
I have made my own 1860's era telegraph poles with two insulators on each pole. I have purchased Heavy E-Z Line for the wires. My problem is I need to find a way to disconnect and reconnect the telegraph wires at a module junction in my layout. The modules will not be taken apart often, but occasionally might be taken apart. I saw this same question raised about 3 years ago, but only saw one possible solution. That was to make loops in the wire to be taken off and reattached to the insulators. I'm not sure if this can be done with Heavy E-Z Line.

Lumber: Its Manufacture and Distribution - Ralph Clement Bryant (free book)
I'm investigating logging subjects to help with developing a logging scene on my new layout. I ran across this book source that goes WAY BEYOND the info I need, but it is a very significant resource.
....a very comprehensive book about Timber,...and its a free download

Creative Second Deck Benchwork Designs
I enjoy benchwork! (Call me crazy.) Recently there have been some threads questioning second deck designs, widths, heights, lighting, etc. Rather than highjack those particular threads, I thought it would be fun to start a dedicated thread for creative 2nd deck design ideas.
This includes (but is not limited to):
1860-80 era ho scale wheel size
Hi
I'm trying to replace a missing wheel on a Bachmann 1860-80 era ho scale combine car. I would like to know what wheel size was used on the car.
I don't have a caliber and no plans to purchase one. I have looked at the Bachman site and there is nothing about the wheel size in the description. online search hasn't been successful in finding what I'm looking for.

OP session #16 and a couple of guests.
Nothing new, I just realized how that i should have been making individual blog posts instead of just adding to one post. So I just copied this post to a new blog post.
We held the session Saturday morning. I had invited Joe Atkinson to come for a session on my layout. Joe was able to make it down and op with us. After a little bit of chit chat and explaining of the layout, we got to work.

Diorama build project for pay
We've been contacted by a firm looking to hire some modelers to do a diorama project.
Initially, the project is up to 5 dioramas, and if it goes well, it could turn into 50 dioramas.
If you're interested, use the contact us form to send us a resume with your qualifications for this project. Only serious modelers with the time and resources to do this for hire need apply.
DCC decoder hook up wire size?
I'm diving into rewiring my large scale locomotives from DC to DCC, and I'm curious what wire size I should use? 30, 28? 5 amp max power.
Digikey is one online retailer of electronic parts, wire, but any other sources you guys use on a regular basis?
I'm guessing it would be smart to buy the standard colors; orange/grey, white/blue, red/black. Am I missing any other standard DCC wire colors?

Using TCS KA-2 with Soundtraxx TSU-1100?
I've got a Soundtraxx TSU-1100 decoder and a TCS KA-2 keepalive on hand, and I would like to use the two of them together. Is it as simple as connecting the KA-2 across the TSU-1100's decoder connections, or are more modifications needed?
Wire a Tortoise (am I making this too hard?)
I pre-wires a few Tortoise machines to interface with a Switch-8 and, ultimately a button board as well as JMRI interface. There are 8 connections on the machine so one set (outermost) is to connect to the Switch-8 and the inner set are two single pole double throw switch contacts. I figured that I only needed one of make/break to send to JMRI so picked up a 7 conductor cable at the big box.

Throwing a turnout kills DCC?
I'm sure there is a simple explanation for me, but I have just discovered a problem. The problem is that my DCC goes dead when I throw an Atlas turnout. Everything was working well. I was away from the layout for a couple of weeks, but no one else has worked on the layout. I checked for shorts across the rails and there aren't any. I don't believe I've miswired the layout because it worked perfectly up till now. When the turnout is thrown in one direction everything seems fine. When thrown the other way, the layout goes dead.
