How I scratch build steam in HO
I posted this picture in another thread, and thought it might be worth a comment or two. I don't want praise (well, everybody likes it) and I'm not trying to show off. I hope that I can show somebody out there that it is really not that difficult to build a steam loco from scratch.
Here's the photo:

New FREE MP3 background sounds - downtown city sound added to Richlawn RR site
If you're using MP3 players for background sound (see the August MRH magazine article) and would like a free downtown city sound file, click on the link below. The file is 15 minutes long, 14mb and has ambient background sound, cars, trucks, kids playing, dogs barking, and other various other sounds. This is the first of (4) four downtown sound files that I have and use on my railroad. I'll be posting others later. I created the files myself using totally free sounds so that there are no license issues. You are free to use and distribute them.

Danville & Western Ry.
Always trying to reach a new audience!
I have been working on a web site for my prototype of choice, the Danville & Western Ry., located in southern Virginia from 1891 until about 1950. the web site is at http://southern-railway.railfan.net/dw/

Southern Ms-5 #4998
Inspired in part by RAGC's conversion of a Tyco pacific and the desire to clean up a project backlog (and maybe fund some other projects!), I've started construction on Southern Ry.

A quick one-evening bash
I was bored last night, waiting for glue to dry on a locomotive project, so I started looking for something to cut up. When the muse is upon me, strange things have been known to happen. In this case, I came across an old Life-Like 40' box car that a friend had given me. If you've never seen these cars, they're the best sort of toy train junk - out of proportion, clunky details, holes in the body to mount the frame, and of course really crappy trucks and couplers.
Here's one I found on E-bay:

Design for a track layout
I am building an HO scale layout with DCC. I am providing a layout of what I get to work with. My problem, is still stuck on the drawing board. I can't seem to get a place to start. I have a list of what I would like on the layout, but that is it. Can anyone help in designing a layout for me?

Operations / Switching question
DISCLAIMER:
I am "Operations Ignorant" in that I've never done operations so please respond using terms / language that would be "Operations for Dummies"; and yes, I have purchased the excellent "Ops Sessions Live" DVDs and watched them.

Blog here?
I am wondering if I should move my blog here form google, to get more access? can anyone make some suggestions? I know here I would have the support of the community, which is a bonus....Looking for some thought here

Joints Between Splines
I've been reading articles and posts regarding spline construction, but I don't recall this being discussed: what method is used to join the ends of the splines, specifically, the first spline that is defining the route. I assume that rigid joints aren't required on the successive splines as they are merely glued to the adjacent spline. It's that first spline that has me stumped.
