Loco Speed
After laying out a basic oval as a test track I tried out several locomotives on it. My problem is of all the engines I ran only one an Athern ran as it should. All of the rest ran slow. I'm using a Digitrax DCC controler. All of the locos were brand new and had never been run before. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just an idea - for steam locos
Let me qualify this by saying that I have NOT tried it yet, though I do intend to.
Pilot trucks on HO scale steamers bother me. They don't do the job they are supposed to (guiding the engine into a curve) and instead flop around getting in the way and making it hard to get the engine on the track. If only there was a simple way of centering them..
eBay Shopping
Joe has done a great job on explaining using eBay. As a long time eBay buyer and seller I would like to emphasize:
DOUBLE CHECK PRICES AND AVAILABILITY!!
Some eBay sellers/dealers consistently price items above the MSRP or "street price". Other sellers describe items as "rare" or "hard to find" that are listed as "in stock" at online dealers or manufacturers sites. Also, beware of auction fever bidding prices too high.

Water
I need some advice. While the trackwork is progressing, I need to address the little mountain lake and the port area water.
Being colorblind (wore OD for many, many years) red/green dichromatic, I do see basic colors but want your suggestions on the colors to paint the bottom and sides of the lake and the "water" in the port area of the layout BEFORE I pour the instant water material.

Need Guidence - Building Interiors
I have some DPM and Cornerstone buildings some built, some in the process of being built. I really would like to add interior detail. The current months MR has some good articles. I have seen pictures of some wonderful completed buildings with some type of interior with lighting but have no clue how to start...
So I have two problems:
1. How do I add interior detail to a building under construction? (4 walls painted and glued.)

HO railroad workers of the '70s
Can someone suggest a good source (manufacturers and part numbers, please) of railroad worker figures appropriate for the 1970s? Something in the line of freight service brakemen and conductors?
So far a search is turning up lots of bib overalls and Cromer hats, and looking at highway workers etc. gets me into high-visibility orange vests and so on.

The Grimstad Line

Tallulah Falls Railroad Consolidation #78 Build
OK, This conversion began at the tail end of my blog on making a Southern Railways Crescent Limited Pacific out of an old Tyco/Mantua Pacific kit. I had run into a cheap Roundhouse Old Timer 2-8-0, without tender and pilot wheel, most detailing broken off and a badly damaged kit cab. The gearing and motor were flawless, though; once oiled and greased it ran absolutely beautifully.

Can anyone identify this caboose?
I know what the lettering in the picture says. I want to know if anybody knows where the car came from. Does it look like any other caboose you know of? I've heard people say it was a Virginian caboose, but the windows are not quite right, and they don't line up relative to the cupola in the same way.
