Construction Begins

For the first time in my life I have said "Hooray, summer is over". My wife knows me all too well. I was all ready to start construction of the LK&O this past spring when she said "I know once you start building that train layout I won't be able to get you to do anything else. Can you wait until after summer is over to start?" Yes dear.

Well Labor Day has come and gone so here I go.....

Buildings against backdrop

Well,

The Mud Creek Beltline Railroad is coming along nicely. But, I have now added a cement plant to the layout and it is actually a "Cut in Half" building so that it will fit the space.

The issue with it so far as I can see, is getting the back half of the building to "seal up against the backdrop", there is a gap there... Not a big gap in the scheme of things, but still, I'd like to mate it right to the backdrop.

 Any suggestions?

Mark

Working "air" brakes?

As I mentioned in another post, I have an idea for working train brakes on a model railroad.  To be really effective, it would be good to have an engine that can free-wheel and a DCC system that can handle dynamic braking and other such things, but that's another topic..

Using WS Water Products and Ground Foam

The PC&L RR continues moving along. I asking the group about WS Water products. See the pictures below. The cliff is made from green florist foam with the rocks hot glued on. The base of the layout is green insulation purchased a Home Depot glued to a 1/2 inch piece of plywood.

Soundtraxx Tsunami - Success...

Hi All,

Well today I decided to take another step in the evolution of the JL&T.  I installed my first Soundtraxx Tsunami TSU-AT1000 DSD with a Soundtraxx Mini Oval 8 ohms, 1.0 Watt speaker into my Atlas MP15 - Conrail switcher.

The Train Room aka The Mother in law room.

The Train Room aka The mother in law room.  This room is 11.5' x 19.5' built on the back patio of the house.  The owner before me used it as an art studio.  I used it for storage at the time of the photos.  The room has no climate control and 2 doors with 2 types of windows on the East (Glass Door Sliding Door) and West (Normal Door) walls.  The north wall (Finished at this time) is a 2x4 stud wall with the back yard on the other side.  The south wall is the the house (Cinder Block wall).  You can see the slope in the ceiling fr

Moving blogging to MRH

I'm moving my blogging from Blogger at http://garagerr.blogspot.com/ to here, as MRH has a built-in community of helpful readers. In short, I'm building a sectional shelf layout in N scale depicting the Boston and Maine in the transition era.

Here are links to past posts on the old blog:

Sunday Sillyness - Coming or going?

So, it's Sunday and I was sitting around reading the MRH forums when I thought with all of the talk about prototypical vs freelance that I'd post a picture of a loco I bought on ebay just for fun.
