Foaming at the Mouth - Benchwork for the Center Peninsula

The final benchwork for the New Great Western Railway involves adding the upper level to the center peninsula. The helix providing access to the upper level was built as part of the lower level benchwork last year and is complete.  The Welty Branch benchwork was also done last year to test the upper level height and provide temporary storage for odds and ends.

The design and construction of the base of the center peninsula was an evolutionary process. I knew what I wanted to accomplish and it just sort of happened.

Alcove Expansion - Mural progress as of 8-28-11

Artist Linda continues her work on the mural in the alcove area and according to her she has completed about 90% of the mural.  She has yet to paint in the town area and some near detail.  I've got to say that I'm very impressed with her work, but quality and quantity as I believe that this project turned out to be bigger than she had imagined!  One of the benefits is getting to know Linda as she's a wonderful person!   I hope to be able to get her some additional work when others see the beautiful job.

ScaleConverter.air download (MRH Issue 5 - Jan/Feb 2010) question

I had the Scale Converter (MRH issue 5 - Jan/Feb 2010) downloaded and installed on my PC. After a System Restore, I tried to open the original zip file from an external H/D backup to reinstall it. Now the zip file expands but wont install. Instead of installing, its tries to open with Windows Media player. Any hints or maybe where I might download a fresh copy of it?

Thanks,

Len

Scratch Building a Wellman Coke Pusher

I have been working on a project the last couple of months. I am scratch building a Coke Pusher. Coke Pushers are used in the Coke Plants. The Coke Pushers are made by different manufactures and different styles depending on the coke battery and the coke plant company specifications. I purchased plans from

Foamboard "stand-in" structure, or "What to do when time's running short!"

First the disclaimers:

1.) The pictures are a poor quality - poor lighting, out of focus, etc..

2.) The construction is shoddy.

3.) This is NOT a contest model, but only to help visitors visualize what will be.

DCC Wiring

OK, I've read the book from Kalmbach several times; let me see if I've got this correct:

A. Unless the switch is DCC ready, I have to gap the frog rails before and after the frog (Sihonhara Code 70 turnouts on sidings and yards - Code 83 mainline.)

B. Doing so means that I have to provide a power drop both BEFORE and AFTER each turnout for power continuity.

C. A 60 degree crossover means gaping where??? Power drop where??

Black Gunk Be Gone !

We have a pretty good understanding now of the black gunk that gets on our wheels.  Hopefully, metal wheels are not prone to collecting this stuff as much as plastic wheels. At least I hope so since I just upgraded 200 cars with Intermountain wheel sets at no small cost.

Mehano Locomotives
