Sunbathers and Radio Stations
Sunbathers believe they have found a secluded spot on the mountain, but it might not be as secluded as they believe. . . .LOL!
KPEG, "The Voice of the Valley" is now on the air. Peggy now has a place on the railroad as do other friends who are reflected in streets, signs, buildings and other named scenery.
Arch Bar Trucks
Construction of Arch Bar Trucks:
Most of the straps making up these old truck side frames were held together with bolts, nuts and washers of various types. Some rivets may have been used by some manufacturer, but up close study will show threaded fasteners. Over time, the holes through the side frame pieces would become enlarged thus causing the truck assembly to need maintenance. And the bolts would stretch as they do on modern equipment, adding to the problem.
I really enjoy this ezine.

Model railroad products and availability....
Hello all....
I have been playing with trains to some degree since I was a little kid. And I remember when all of the manufacturers moved the construction and assembly jobs and opportunities to other countries like China etc.... But I have to say I feel this has come to bite us in the caboose. Further, this was predicted by many modelers back when the jobs first went over seas. Now the development of these products take a very long time to get to us. Further, the prices are no longer super cheap. The prices are going up and up and up.

Progress Photos
Have finally completed 98% of the scenery (except for small details) that covers the storage tracks on the layout. the "Greater Nickel Plate" is showing some real progress. With rail arriving at the hobby shop by the end of the month, tracklaying can begin in earnest.
Steel trestle under construction
Here is a great pic of a steel trestle under construction. Could be used as a scenic effect:

Practising my freight car weathering
As I sat waiting for a call for an follow up interview today I pulled out some of my weathering materials and grabbed three box cars and starting practicing with some new materials. I'm working with the MIG line of washes and pigments and I'm undecided on the results right now. Are these good, bad, to much, not enough weathering? In other words if they were finished up with trucks and couplers would you be willing to run these on your layout?
RPM West Coast
The meet formerly known as Western Prototype Modelers, has been re-branded as RPM West Coast. I'll be taking place Sept 17th 2011, in San Bernardino CA.
GE 44 Tonner Phases
OK, I've been searching through old magazines, the Diesel Spotter's Guide and anything else I can find. Does anybody know a resource that details what the different 'phases' of GE 44-tonner construction?
I've seen it mentioned that there are as many as 12 different phases.
I know of W&R brass releases of:
Phase Ic (presumably there was a Phase Ia and Ib)
Phase IIb (again I'm assuming there was a Phase IIa)
Phase IV.
