HO to On30

I have been considering tearing out my HO Northern Pacific layout and starting over in On30 and doing a modular type of layout, kinda the Joe Fugate TOMA (The One Module Approach).   Modular, not because I want to take to shows; but, because once I kick-off, modular will be easier for my wife and sons to get rid of.

Scene Design: 19th Century Gold/silver mining operations (some questions)

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of designing a trackplan for my small island type layout. While trying to do so, (will start a separate thread on the trackplan), i need to figure out some things concerning gold/silver (can consider copper if needed) mining ops, and specifically during 1870-1890.

G scale switching layout design

Hello all,

I'd like to build a small G scale switching layout (indoors). The space available to me is 3 ft. by 8 1/2 ft. I should also be able to have a 2 1/2 ft. extention on the left side of the layout.

I'm a big fan of the Western Maryland Ry, so I would like to model a slice of the railroad somewhere.

What do you all think??  Any Suggestions??\

Planning Canadian branch line terminus - appreciate feedback

Dear all,

Long story short:
I am a beginner. I've made a layout plan for a fictional Canadian branch line terminal in the 1950's in N-scale. It's a small, rural, 1 train terminus to staging type affair. The actual plan is in the image in the next post. I'd be grateful if some people might have a look at it and point out anything that doesn't seem to make sense.

Apocalypse Railroad, Track Plan Data Base Post.

Nice Looking Plan, with which you include my favorite railroad, the DT&I. We are far from an Apocalypse and the Internet isn't going anywhere anytime soon. :) Keep us posted with some pics when you get to that point. I like the the DT&I circa 1955 to 1980.

Designing lighter module for existing layout

I am wondering if this type of construction for a 77" X 36" with 2" pink foam glued to it would be structurally sound and lighter than my existing modules that weigh about 70 lbs each.

Identifying bridge support and retaining walls

I want to create a tide out scene similar to this on my third module.

I need help in indentifying this:

Are the horizontal boards, railroad ties? Are the vertical ones, wooden boards?

And what is the bridge mounted on?

Diesel Fueling and Sanding Facility (on a Mainline Track or otherwise)

Is it possible to have a diesel fueling and sanding facility located on a mainline track? I'm thinking of a two track facility where at least one of the tracks would be a main line track, and the 'inner track' would be a freight yard track? Maybe something like this type of facility,..

Changes to Fusion 360

As a head's up, Autodesk's Fusion 360 is changing its terms of service (again) for free-to-use hobbyists. If you pay their yearly subscription ($500 per year, $300 on their sale), then these changes will not affect you.

Most of the changes can be found here: https://productdesignonline.com/tips-and-tricks/the-fusion-360-personal-use-license-is-changing-september-2020/

Track Centers HO Scale

I'm in the process of reworking my small stub yard basically pulling up the #5 turnouts and replacing with #6's. I have very limited space but would like to add as much storage capacity as possible. I try to faithfully follow the recommendations of John Armstrong and in his book Track Planning for Realistic Ops he recommends a minimum of 2 inch track centers in freight yards. I would like to try 1 3/4 inch centers as this would give me 1 more track in my yard. Should I follow the master?
