Need help finding more information on various businesses/industries in Pittsburgh, PA - New Industries added 8-3-20

I am having difficulty in finding information on some of the businesses the various Railroads served in Pittsburgh.  This thread will list, a I go through the various ones I have identified I would like to model and am having difficulty in finding certain information about them. I will point out what I am "missing" in each post concerning the specific business/industry.  Thanks,

Ken L.

Need circa 1950s MAP of Pittsburgh showing RR Customers

So I have finally figured out the Yard for the P&A, and the for the Pittsburgh Jct RR.  Now I have run into a problem finishing the track plan for Pittsburgh.  I have Sanborn Maps and other maps online thanks to several people who replied to other threads, and they have been very helpful.  However, they latest year available is 1923.   The one web site that has several "layers" includes maps (up to 1923) and after 1923, the selected years are actual Ariel photos of the city, which is good, but it doesn't tell me what the industries they are serving

Plan check

Here is my latest idea-

California/Nevada desert shortline, late 1950's steam

Preferences,

Single operator

Continuous running

2% - 2.5% grade

Opportunities for switching

Tunnel - for my grandson

Any suggestions?

Why does this programming of yours always seem to be shaky?  remember simple is always the winner.

Again your content is always excellent but the publication seems to be a microsoft update model?

MEC layout design

This thread is for the design on an upcoming MEC build

removable industrial switching area over hidden class yard lead?

I cruised the forums and didn't find much relevant to this, so a few thoughts from y'all would be helpful.

I have room to add a several track active classification yard, about 8' long. Conventional wisdom would have an 8' lead serving it.

So how much grief would I cause myself by having the most distant 6' of that yard lead hidden under an industrial switching area?

What type and size of "facilities" to service Passenger Equipment circa *early* 1950s?

As I dig deeper into research to design proper facilities for the proto-freelanced P&A, I'm starting to think it is "too much" for Passenger Car (and other related cars) service.  That is what I have envisioned for each location might be far more than what the railroad would actually have, so I would like to briefly recap (as there have been bits and pieces mentioned through several threads, but not all in one thread) where I would expect there to be significant sized Passenger Train facilities (other than just a station), and for those who know are familiar with

Vancouver Waterfront Layout Design - Looking for feedback

Hi everyone,

Exciting news (for me)! I am finally getting started on my layout. I have a developed basement to fill. The layout is based on Canadian Pacific's operations in Vancouver Canada in the 1940s, particularly Hastings, Rogers Sugar, and Pier B.

I have been thinking about a plan and this is what I have come up with so far. I am actually looking to get started on the benchwork this weekend.

Layout Standards:

Small dock railway (HO scale)

I had a poorly designed, too-big model railroad taking space in the basement which was piling up junk on top of it and was getting nowhere so I decided to start over. For several stories I've written in school and on my own time I developed a setting I really like so I knew that any model railroad I did would be set in that setting, which has a nice aesthetic of an anachronistic mix of 30's and 70's technology as well as few paved roads, dense forest, reliance of river transportation, and impromptu, casual, improvised structures and facilities.

Crossing the Monongahela River with little space...

So now I'm working on some scenes for the Pittsburgh area.  Specifically where the Pittsburgh Jct RR connects the B&O and P&LE yards by crossing the Mon. River.  I have the B&O yard on one side of the aisle, the P&LE yard on the other side.  I have several problems though.
