Dream and design
Modern HO Scale Secondary Mainline in an Oddly Shaped Room
Good evening all,
I quite enjoy layout design and over the past year or so have drawn up a number of model railroad plans for all sorts of spaces (mostly fictional but reasonably sized areas), but recently, I decided to take on the challenge of designing a way to get mainline operations in the oddly shaped room above my garage. I currently have a small (8' x 10') model railroad depicting BC Rail's Takla Subdivision in this area (see my blog, although I've made quite a bit of progress since the last updates).

Need help making East-West Route for protofreelanced RR in PA plausible!!!
I am aware of "Rule #1", but as I have pointed out in other threads, for me if others do not find what I am doing Plausible, then I can not find enjoyment in the endeavor. And I have run into a huge problem, that I didn't spend much time thinking about, but now that I have been made aware of, it really bothers me.
To give some context to the problem, here is a brief overview, as I have shared bits and pieces here and there, but I want to make sure we are all on the same page here.
The Pennsylvania & Allegheny RR is:

How long should a division be for Railroads in the Appalachian Mountains?
In another thread about designing one of the yards for the P&A, it was brought to my attention that the length of the division, that includes a helper district requiring helpers in either direction for most trains, might be too short for what the prototype did in the 1950. I would like feedback from those who would know about such things and help me understand what I am "missing". Thanks...

Need Feedback for Division Point Yard - UPDATED NORTH AND SOUTH ENDS - 7/7/20
So this is a second yard I am designing at the moment. This Yard is a Division Point Yard between the Northern Division (South Erie, PA to approximately 20 miles North of Franklin, PA where this yard is located) and the Southwest Division (this point south to Pittsburgh, PA).
This Yard needs to serve the following functions:
- Crew-Change point between the Northern and Southwest Divisions.
- generate two Locals (one North/one South) for every 12 hours trick
- the end of the Helper District for the Northern Division

Are Location of facilities in this yard plausible - New Plan Updated 7/8/20 - WAS: Is this "Trackplan" Plausible?
Hello Everyone!
I need feedback as to how plausible is this outline of a track layout for the Northern Terminus for my Proto-Freelanced Pennsylvania & Allegheny RR, a wholly owned subsidiary of the NYC in 1953.
Minimum length for realistic mainline operations
Ok, so I know I'm well into the realm of 'it depends'. Regardless, I want to ask the question.

Would a prototype railroad have this rule for turnout position - circa 1950s, TT&TO Authority
For those familiar with prototype railroad rules for the 1950s under TT&TO authority, I was wondering if the following rule would exist. This rule is to accommodate a modeling/model operation issue, so I'm hoping there would be a prototype rr reason that could be created to justify this rule.

Research Help For Planning A Railroad
All,
Looking for some help on a design project.
Right now the base information I am looking would be mid 1990s CN diesel rosters, and what power was CN shedding during that time period?
1995ish is what I am looking at.
Thanks,
Bob
Looking for help in comparing two designs
I have my most recent design down to two possible candidates and attached both of them. The major differences between them is that one has the run-around to the left of the main and the other the right.
Running through the designs I think one is easier to operate than the other. I would appreciate you thoughts and see if everyone else is seeing what I'm seeing.
Looking for an MR track plan from many, many years ago
Many, many, many years ago MR magazine had an N scale track plan based on the Green Mountain Ry in Vermont. By chance would anyone have a scan of this you would be willing to share. It does not appear to be available on the MR website.
Thanks in advance,
Bill
