Dream and design
Upper Terminal - lead track?
Last year I started to build six modules (total length: 17ft 8 inch) for Fremo (the German free-mo counterpart). The idea is based around a ebay purchase of a Walthers car float and Walthers carfloat apron. I like to use the modules for different eras: steam - today.
My concept is a small fictitious "back up / auxilary" terminal for Greenville yard ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenville_Yard ) south of Jersey city at a main line.
Are yards a waste?
In a couple of discussions on this board comments about yards got me thinking. It seems like the old school idea of model railroading is to represent a division, which means that you often start out in a yard (not staging) and end at one. This has changed a little but many model railroads still have at least one big classification yard.

Battery Operated Trains, Nuclear Diamond Battery technology
I know this subject has come up on the forum on several occasions, but I never paid much attention to it, nor do I recall how the subject conversation was titled. .....the idea that we could have battery powered model trains, free from track power.
I was reading my mail today, and this item caught my attention,

LED lighting on 3 deck layout
Over the past year or so I purchased some LED lighting from Amazon,...all of it Barrina brand. My initial purchases was 6 of the 4000K units
Layout Feedback - Phase 1
I’d appreciate any feedback you can offer on my initial layout design. In summary, my goal with this is a switching layout, set in midwestern city, during the transition era. I do value simplicity and realism of a design.
Would you design a layout with no on-line industries?
The post on the Modeling General Discussion about helpers made me think of a piece of railroad that has always captivated me - B&O's route from Connellsville PA to Cumberland MD over the Sand Patch grade. It's a beautiful piece of railroad, especially the east slope, that I would seriously consider modeling, if given the right circumstances.
The Border Between Prototypical and Ridiculous Designs
Good Morning Modelers,
I've been planning a future Amtrak Layout that will model #69 Northbound (NYC to Montreal). I'm planning a 'starting point' in Albany (yes, skipping NYC) and going only partway to Montreal, hitting some landmark stops along the way. Era, would be 2010-ish so that I can include the Adirondack Dome Car (a work in progress creation).
Plan check 2.2
Thank you for the feedback! After mulling over your ideas I decided to get rid of the return loops and go twice around the room. So here are more details
HO scale std gauge
California/Nevada desert / mountain mining shortline, late 1950's steam
2%-2.5% grade
Short trains 6-8(10?) cars
Original idea for branch( based on Tecopa Railroad). 4% - 7% grade-push empties up, back loads down
Not sure of extending branch to yard, I don't want 3 tracks under window
Longer sidings with multiple industries
