Want to have scene constructing a new Tunnel for the P&A Mainline...

...so there are some questions I have that hopefully there are simple answers.  I googled the topic, but all I'm getting is either modern pictures or ones from the 19th Century.  I need sources and information for the early 1950s.

The premise is the P&A RR wants to (like the PRR did much earlier) shorten the distance of the mainline and reduce the grade and curvatures of the existing mainline Right-of-Way.  So they are constructing a new tunnel.

City passenger terminus; dead end tracks under train shed

I've seen layouts where multiple tracks terminate (dead end) at a major station, often under a train shed.  I'd like to model this.  However, in studying at least one such track plan, it appears that a train pulls into the station tracks with no provision for turning around the engines.  Operationally, are such trains supposed to back out of the station to the main line?  Or, are they supposed to back into the station?  What am I missing in terms of operating such a passenger configuration?  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Does keeping "distances" the same for the entire layout matter?

What do I mean?  I have a set SCALE MILES FACTOR where I take the actual number of miles P&A mainline between towns/stations divide that by 87 (for HO Scale) then divide that by a particular scale factor so in the end one actual Scale Mile = one modeled Scale Mile.  All of the pieces of my "puzzle" fit, accept what I am calling the Kiski Branch, which follows the north bank of the Kiskimenitas River from Schenley, PA to just across the River from Salina, PA then southeast towards Somerset, then east to Harrisburg along the former South Penn Right-Of-Way.  T

Free-Mo City Industrial District Concept

Hi all! I've been itching to get modeling, and I am finally in a situation where I can get started! I am wanting to create some Free-Mo models that I can eventually take to a show, but that I can also enjoy when in a smaller setup at home. I'm really interested in doing local and switching operations and figured some module with a few industries would be a good starting place. I've used SCARM to plan out some modules, and am pretty happy with this module here (will be split into two separate 66" modules).

Air Driven Train, by 89 year old fellow

The future of train transportation might be pneumatic tubes and magnets. Meet the 89-year old entrepreneur who wants to disrupt the railroad with a modern twist on a very old train idea.

Locals vs Through Freights delivering cars to towns/cities

At first I was going to describe this thread a discussion about Freight Yards, but it's more about how are cars delivered to towns and distributed to the various spurs.

Evanston Subdivision in HO

In the Fall, I will begin construction of a large HO scale layout.  While I have not yet settled on a prototype, the leading candidate right now is the Union Pacific's Evanston Subdivision in Utah, specifically around Echo Canyon.  In looking at the trackage, I noticed that the double track mainline has no crossovers, but instead has center sidings.  Any thoughts on how to incorporate this into a layout.  Seems center sidings instead of crossover will take up way to much space.  Or, should I just do crossovers?  Below is the space and general flow of the la

Modeling Pittsburgh has raised some issue (AGAIN!) SIGH

So, just when I believe I have all the pieces together, and everything fits in the space, I discover that I don't have enough space to model all of the towns I would like to.  I believe I have a plausible solution to the problem, but I would like feedback from those who know the history of Pittsburgh, PA if my slight changes to history (within the city) are indeed plausible.

Are there prototype run around layouts findable?

Here a fan of american railroads.

Just to give an idea of a prototype circling railroad with decent mesurements. I found this in the harbour area of Savannah, Georgia. As an H0 scale model railroad it requires 4,7m by 5,6m to build WITHOUT compression.

Isn't that nice as a starter?

Only 51 miles in between Crew Change Points - What to do????

Because of how I have had to tweak history to minimize impact on other railroads, such as the PRR, the leg to connect the existing P&A Mainline (the former Allegheny Valley Railway) to the former South Pennsylvania RR right-of-way, there is one mainline "run" that is approximately 50 miles.  That is hardly a day's length of work.  It is the trains the depart Pittsburgh, head northeast to the WYE that has the east leg head towards the South Penn ROW to reach Harrisburg.  the P&A ownership wanted it's own right-of-way and not rely on another railr
