Scaleable operation

Another thread got me thinking about scaleable operation, the ability to operate with a varying sized crew.  Aside from physical size, my theory is that on a sliding scale between all switching and all running, either end of the spectrum is very scaleable.  A layout that is all switching can be operated by one person or a full crew just as easily.  A layout that is all running can be operated by anything from one person to a full crew just as easily.

Need help with easement; resolved.

I need to have an easement to a 42 inch radius. My longest car is a passenger car that is 11 1/2 inches. I'm trying to figure out how long the easement should be so coupled cars going over it look good.

Vancouver Waterfront Layout Design Version "2"

Hi everyone,

Back in the summer I posted early draft plans for my planned Vancouver Canada layout focusing on the 1940s. Link here - https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/40075?page=1

Since then I have moved the plan into SCARM and would appreciate another round of feedback. I am using a "one city" approach and also want continuous running for when I don't feel like operating.

Big changes:

-Era-wise I might actually move back even farther, say the 1920s. This would not change the track plan.

Freight Yard Scene,....again

Sorry to bring this subject up AGAIN, but perhaps there are some lessons to be learned,...by myself as well as others.

Roadbed'; looking for 1/8 inch.

I ran out of my favourite roadbed that I got from California Roadbed ages ago that was made out of homasote.

Now I need to a new product for my new module

to match my branch line roadbed on Stonehammer, which is 1/8" thick.

Big Bridges on a Small Layout? Need Track Planning Advice.

Hello fellow Railroaders,

I've been lurking here for awhile now and enjoy the laid-back and welcoming atmosphere this forum has to offer. For my first post here, while trying to keep it as concise as possible, I would like to divulge and hopefully gain some insight on a slight problem in my track planning I've been trying to solve for the better half of the week now.

Deep module with one track and bridge

I have finished building a frame for my new module that is an addition to my existing branch line terminus.

It will have a 42" radius that will someday join another module.

This is the look I am going for in regards to an inlet with the tide out.

Track Planning

My wife & I are building a model Railroad with our 2 sons ages 12 & 11, she picked out a space in our finished basement and found a bench work plan and we built the bench work. Now I know that typically the bench work is built to facilitate the track plan. We have 3 4' x 8' tables arranged in a J shape. If anybody has any ideas on what we can do please let me know.

Erie 28th Street Turnout Size

I’m thinking about doing a layout in the flavor of Erie’s 28th street yard on Manhattan but I’m unsure of the turnout size. I’ll be doing this in N scale with Peco turnouts. I a, assuming there would be there medium size turnouts and not the smaller ST ones. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

how would you go about making a TOMA module for a yard and round house

I will be moving in a few years so I am now considering using TOMA modules to add to my layout.  Can you do a TOMA module for a yard, turntable and roundhouse?  Or would that be too big?  Should I do one for the roundhouse and turntable and one for the yard.  I guess TOMA should be kept to 6 feet in lenght max.  What about the width.  2 feet?

any comments welcomed

Paul
