Trackplanning --> Hand Laying : Geometry headspace?

Dear MRHers,

I was musing over some of the recent threads RE Handlaying VS RTR trackwork options,
and that one of the significant benefits of handlaying turnouts was

"the modeller is not limited to fixed, whole-number, or only the frog-angles-commercially-available geometry".

Now, I'm not saying that this isn't true from a raw "what One can build" standpoint,,
but it did send me off down a kinda "chicken and egg" hole, IE:

Placement of a plastics molding factory (late 60s)

Dear all,

I am making some revisions / final adjustments on the placement of some industries on my layout, and i was wondering if a plastics molding industry (receiving pellets, sending injection molded plastic items), could be placed at Pasadena's industrial area (south of the depot) back in the 60's / 70's, or if there were restrictions back then for such industries.

Planning an extension to the Playa Desnuda branch

My main complaint about operating the Playa Desnuda branch is that there is no way to have the train roll in, switch the industries, then leave town. I am looking at at adding the fictitious Washington Blvd. Yard.

Linda Sand drew up this yard for the 1999 Model Railroad Planning magazine and it will be the basis of my yard. I am also open to recommendations, N Scale, 14"x48"...

Another Anon & Muss Layout Plan

Another Anon & Muss Layout Plan

I was recently handed a Dec 2019 issue of Model Railroader, and as I thumbed thru it quickly I was struck by this Greenville & Ohio plan built in a 13' 6” x 23' foot room. It reminded me SO MUCH of one of the layout plans I first fell in lust for, the Anon & Muss. Had my layout space been slightly wider I might well have built this plan, but of course it still suffers from those limited radius loops at the entrance end.

Right scale for switching

Since we have so much time off I have fallen into the world of over thinking/planning.

I want to build a intricate industrial park based layout. I had been set on HO for the longest time but have been considering the switch to N to allow more use of my availible space. the big concern I have is with N scale DCC at slow speeds? I only have a few HO locomotives right now, a couple WP Geeps and they run like a dream. I am worried about giving up that dependability.

Incorporating Mainline Running on a Switching Layout with Surround Staging

I was thinking about ways to include mainline running on a smaller, switching layout for those times where one wants to demonstrate some continuous running, showcase their locomotive collection or do a little model railfanning.  In those cases I don't find "closing the loop" on switching layouts and running trains in a circle convincing, rather I thought about implementing surround staging.

What type of layout would you like to operate on?

There are countless threads in forums about what layout you'd build if you have infinite space/money, or if you had to swap the concept from what you have now.

This isn't one of them.

What would be your ideal layout for someone else? In other words, you get an invite for an op session, you walk into the room and your jaw hits the ground with a very loud thud.

This ideal layout:
