May Valley Railroad progress

Have not posted in a while so I thought I would share some pictures of my progress of the first couple of modules. As you can see nothing is complete...and I mean nothing!! But I am slowly pushing forward! (sorry about the sideways photos...can't figure out how to turn them

I plan on using Martin's toilet paper method in the harbor

Thanks Neil E. and John G. Magnetic Brakes video for operations.

I worked most of my weekend trying to find the right combination of RE magnet holding power and steel pin shaping. I did find that the pin would stay "hovering" in the up position if I didn't add a small amount of weight to pull it down right away. I think if I use a copper tube like Neil did, the steel pin might release easier.

Anyways, heres a video of what I was trying to overcome, (derailed caboose every time) and how it was solved by Neil and his creative mind.

Linel Double Tower Floodlight

I am building a baseball stadium with lights. I recently purchased 2 Lionel Pug and Play Double Floodlight Towers (6-82013). I am confused on how to supply power to them...any model train enthusiast out there that can help me figure this out? I am not into trains (my sincere apologies) but I figured I would go to the experts on this. I want to keep it as simple and straight forward as possible. Thanks.

Judge my layout... please

Here’s an overall pic  sorry bout the format I’m doing this from an iPhone

First Layout in 40 Years

Ok, So I started my first N Scale layout in 40 years this week.  I've got the layout marked on the bench, but now I've got a question for the group.  What's the best way to lay roadbed?  This will be a DCC layout with some DC Switches on it.  (Hope to get them upgraded to DCC when I can afford it.)  I've also left plenty of room on the bench for expansion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I will be posting Pictures as I can.

2019 National Train Show - The Layouts

I've decided to give the layout photos their own blog post, primarily because there are going to be a lot of photos here, so there will be some pretty long pages.

On Friday I decided to try something different - I have a 10-18mm wide angle lens, and I wanted to see how well it would do for layout photography. I went back to my normal 18-135mm zoom on Saturday, because I decided I wanted the ability to zoom in more than I could with the 10-18.

On with the layouts....

Operating Session No. 250 on the K&T Rly

I think it’s a bit of a milestone reaching Op Sess 250 (yes I have been counting.) My first operating session was in January 2014 after doubling the size of my Kayton Shortline (see MRH #54 - Aug 2014) Two years ago a massive 2 foot by 3 foot extension was added to create the current (and final) “J” shaped layout.

Final Livestream Reminder

Just a reminder that I will be live streaming the final op session tonight in two blocks, 3:30-5:30 and 6:00-8:00. Hope to see you there.

Track planning with google maps

I’m in the planing phase for an around 3 walls freelance industrial switching layout.  I prefer not to compress my industries much.  I do like to know about the prototype for any given industry rather than just making them up.  I have been fussing around in CAD for a while trying to find the best way to lay out the industries I thought I wanted in the space available, and not really converging on something I was happy with.

So I decided to try something completely different.
