Power Company, Minot, N. D.

Consumers Power Company (CPC)

A short history

It all started in 1909 when an engineering apprentice of Thomas Edison's, H. M. Byllesby formed the Washington County Light & Power Company, a subsidiary of his utilities conglomerate, Consumers Power Company. Between 1912 through 1915, H. M. linked power lines around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. enlarging his customer base from a few thousand to 48,000.

Green Mountain RS-1's

Jack,

Just so we won't high jack Greg's thread I've started a blog. At present I have four pictures. I have more but they are buried amongst 100's of slides and will take a while to dig out. The four I have were scanned on an old scanner and are not very large. I'll have to rescan them some time for a larger picture.

I chased this train from the River jct. in Bellows Falls all the way to Rutland.

Designing a One Town Hawaiian Railway

Inspired by the one town layout concept, I want to explore what can be done in my space using On30 locomotives and rolling stock to represent a very small portion of the OR&L (Oahu Railway & Land Company).

Please share your thoughts and sketches!

I’ve added a “dream space” to keep in mind while developing the first module for future use in a layout.  3/24/18

Winterrail 2018

I'm attending Winterrail for the first time this year  I had occasionally thought about going when it was in Stockton, California, but after it moved to Corvallis, OR I had no choice - to miss a nationally known event when it was 30 or so miles away was not an option  Still  I managed to until this year

Attendance: 403

Roll Up Doors in the 1930's?

Does anyone know if roll up type doors were used in warehouses / factories in the 1930's.

I haven't had much success searching the internet or locating a photo.

Modeling the Pre-Depression Years: 1900-1930

Let's talk about modeling in the years before the Great Depression. This blog is an open discussion to assist modelers in understanding prototype railroads and industries so we can better recreate these on our home layouts.

Repaint #325 Fundraiser

A bit off topic but the Minnesota Transportation Museum is looking for help to repaint its SDP40 back to Great Northern Big Sky Blue this year. This is one of the only SDP40s left in existence, it was the last working passenger locomotive on a Class I railroad, and any help in preserving this unit would be appreciated!

Here's to hoping that Athearn releases an SDP40 someday to follow up on their excellent SDP45s as well.

How to change eras with out pain or expense

There have been lots of discussions regarding changing eras for modeling prototype equipment in the forums. So I have been doing some reading of magazines back in the fifties and made a discovery. I have been looking at the dollar car series in Model Railroader that was running in the 1950s and possibly later. This concept started by accident. Tom B. has lots of reference material that is well archived. Ron was building an old kit regarding a carbon black covered hopper car. Tom B remembered an article about that type of car in the dollar car series and dug it up.

O Scale 2 rail ISL inspiration

Link is Google Maps location of old Cotton Belt Main ( I think) north of Waco near town of Bellmead, TX.

Interesting in that access is from east and the old main line is removed north and south of this location.
