Prototype information
Fonda Johnstown & Gloversville
I had just purchased two of the new Atlas S2's in the FJ&G paint scheme, which I figured would be a natural paint scheme progression for my Moosehead Western. As I was beginning to remove the lettering and start the decaling process for the Moosehead, I decided to look into the FJ&G. Seems this is a fascinating short Short Line with a very rich history. Beautiful locomotives and the Brill Bullet Interurbans. 4-4-0 locomotives and small 0-8-0 and 0-6-0's that pulled their hearts out moving freight.
Perfect photo day if... Is there anyone who can
Is there someone who can (in the northeast snowstorm) photograph a bunch of switch heaters in operation?
I know... who wants to travel in the mess? But this IS a perfect day for this subject.
No doubt others will join me in thanks.
Box cars from other country in the US
Would 50 foot steel box cars from Canada like CP and CN make thier way into the southern states of the US in the late 60s and ealry 70s? As for south as the San Diego area? I've seen pics of these box cars in the US, but only in the mid-western states and east coast.
Questions Concerning the Union Pacific Dash 8-40c Locomotives
Hello, All
This is my first post on this forum. Yay! I do have a few questions concerning the Union Pacific Dash 8-40c Locomotives.
- Are there any UP Dash 8-40c still in service on the UP?
- Were their any UP Dash 8-40c locomotives painted with the flag scheme?
- How long were they?
Walther's Northern Light and Power Electrical question
Hey,
I'm planning on using a Walther's Northern Light and Power kit on my Illinois Terminal railroad to represent a "downtown" powerstation with a spur for coal delivery, probably late 1930's to early 1940's.
EMD NW2
I have a question about Phase 2 EMD NW2 switchers built in 1945.
Anyone know what this is?
This seems to accompany most Western Pacific cabooses.

IAIS's West End - Favorite scene
A couple months ago I was posting about my layout's signature scene, but this time, I thought I'd veer from that to discuss my favorite scene: The crossovers at the west end of Atlantic, Iowa.
Details in the first reply.
Milk traffic in Georgia and other southeastern Atlantic states
Hi All,
In his book “Mid sized and manageable track plans”, Iain Rice has an interesting plan for a layout set in the Georgia/South Carolina border area, and includes a creamery as an on-line industry with its own spur, with a comment to the effect that it was not just the North East that carried a lot of milk traffic, but no more is said than that!
Does anyone have any info on this? Were there dedicated milk cars, was this in churns, or were there bespoke milk cars containing class-lined steel tanks for the bulk transport of milk?
