Hey - I've been quoted

Hey;

In the current issue of MRH, I've been quoted. Look for the article on pages 86-87.

Neat.

Some inspiration for New Zealand modellers - KA942 photos

For the Kiwi steam fans out there (and others),

KA 942 came thundering through town the other weekend on her tour of the south island. I waited in the biting wind for 45 mins (she was running late) to see her on her way to Invercargill.The rain held off till she came into view but then alas the heavens opened. I'm still pleased with the photos though.

Enjoy

Luke

Water tank sounds?

While reading some ICC valuation documents, I noticed something that got me thinking.  The water tanks were typically filled in one of three ways - gravity, by steam siphon pump, or gasoline powered pump.  That (mainly the gasoline engine at first) got me thinking about the sound these things would make.

Color help

Have a question that I am hoping I can get answered here.  I am modeling my favorite railroad, the Yancey Railroad, and they purchased their #2, a GE 50 tonner, from the US Navy.  It remained in US Navy livery until 1975, but I am modeling 1969.  I have no color photos of this unit; all are in black and white.  My question is: What color comes close to what the US Navy used in the late 40's?  Everyone calls it a blue-grey.  I looked through the Floquil charts and see nothing that comes close.  Maybe use GN Big Sky Blue and add a few drops of grey?&n

Perseverance

I often strongly urge people to do their own research.  To keep poking around on the internet.

In a previous thread on the redesign of my yard I had mentioned that I didn't know what the P&R depot at Wilmington looked like because the Bernhardt book on P&R stations has pictures of two different buildings identified as the P&R depot at Wilmington.

While looking for someother information I was rummaging around in the Hagley Library digitail archives:

http://digital.hagley.org

They have all sorts of industrial galleries.
