Prototype information

Another bridge question.

There are lots of old photos showing spindly steel bridges crossing valleys. Those photos are all in B&W format or Sepia Tone.  My question is the color painted on the steel to protect it?  Is there any documentation as to what color these bridges were painted in the turn of the century to the 1930s? I like the bright silver we see in today's color photos, but I'm not sure that was used back then.

Thanks!

Tonkin to produce HO scale Caterpiller models

Hi all.

I did a quick search and didn't see anything mentioned on here regarding this, but if there is, please just disregard this.

Canadian or Canadien National

I was admiring a photo of a nicely modeled boxcar in another thread when I noticed it was lettered for "Canadien National". I was pretty sure that should be "Canadian" so I looked it up on google. The official website seemed to be "Canadian" oriented.

Am I being my usual ignorant self or is either spelling of the railroad's name ok?

How common were hi-rail cars in the 'teens and beyond?

Background:

I know that in 1917 the Danville & Western Ry. had a Maxwell roadster converted to run on rails.  I believe it was a 1914 model, and would have been used for inspection, but I do not know exactly which company officer(s) claimed it.

Power Station / Substation Questions

I have a couple of questions regarding modeling an HO power station.

  1. I have a Walthers Northern Light & Power Building.  I would like to have this connect to power lines and then to a substation.  I can’t find any info on how the power lines connect to the building.  Do they connect to the roof, the side of the building, or come out of the ground next to the building?

Greenville & Northern

Was wondering if anyone is modeling the Greenville & Northern?  With the railroad gone now for some time there is a lack of overhead shots that could be used to design a short layout and I have all of the magazine articles about the railroad though none show details about sidings and how the industrial trackage was laid out.  The articles have nice photos that gives some idea but not enough to be fairly accurate.  Any suggestions as to sources for such information?

Thanks

Where do people get prototypical information on current shippers

I tried to email one line (BNSF) to see which businesses in the New Orleans area use their lines.  They respectively declined to answer in giving out current users.  I understand that completely.  I know that some might try to gain an advantage in business.

I have tried google searches using New Orleans businesses rail/shippers/railroad and anything else I could imagine.

I found listings of 1940 era shippers and before.
