Modeling general discussion
Live Clinics vs. YouTube Presentations (or both?)
There is another live series of clinics planned for May 16th - 17th.
Some of the comments and criticism of the one done this last weekend hurt but were certainly deserved. I am leaning toward a pre-filmed presentation with voice over. The camera would be fixed in my workbench. I use my iPhone 11 Pro with a tripod and Movie Maker to edit and do titles and the voice over.

Weekly Photo Fun - Apr 26 - May 2, 2020
It's another week . . . post 'em if you got 'em.
Bravo NMRA
Bravo NMRA for doing the live Facebook stream!
I have been critical of the NMRA in the past for being “out of touch” with young modelers and modern ways of thinking. But this recent live event tells me there is hope after all!
“Although sad that it took a pandemic to force the issue”
Even when things return to normal I hope to see the NMRA offer things like “live streaming” of their events and meetings.
Narrow Gauge Tie sizes
I have found a Narrow Gauge discussion group that has described Narrow Gauge Tie sizes, as the following:
Tie length from 5 feet 11 inches to 7 feet long.
Tie width from 6 to 10 inches.
Tie depth from 6 to 8 inches.
Of course this does not describe ties used in special instances (Turn-outs and other special trackage).
Does your information agree with this?
Photo etching service
Has anyone had a good experience sending a design to a photo-etching service? Which one?
Assembling an Athearn All-Weather Window
Is there a trick to assembling the Athearn all-weather windows? It looks easy enough, just two pieces - the housing and clear plastic for the windows. How hard can that be? But for the life of me I can't get the clear plastic to fit inside of the housing, and just end up shattering it while trying for a press-fit. Multiple times. I've got to be missing something obvious.

Train Museums and Social Distancing
Curious Question... I was sitting here, thinking about the San Diego Model Railroad Museum, and how much track they have... and thinking of my own problems because I let my layout sit for a year...
How are museums around the country (and around the world) dealing with track maintenance during "Social Distancing" while all of the museums are closed?
Are these museums able to get a small skeleton crew in to keep everything clean while the museums are closed?
NCE throttle cable - I can’t be the only one having this problem.....
I have and NCE PowerCab system. It’s worked great since day one. But the coiled throttle cables are very fragile. The small plastic tab that holds the plug in the socket break off very, very easily. First time it happened I figured it was user error. But since the first one broke I pay close attention when plugging/unplugging and am careful not to break it. I’ve had the system about 3 years, I’ve replaced the cable over half a dozen times....I’ve lost count. I order 2 at a time now.
