Ballasting for a logging railroad

I just finished ballasting the first section on my logging railroad. After looking at countless books on some of my favourite logging companies in the PNW, I realized that most track ballast was pretty close to dirt with the occasional rock thrown in. The secret became not being overly neat and make it feel almost seamless between the track ballast and the surrounding area. The "mainline" is the centre track so I gave it some more rocks to help make it feel different.

Going back to paper

Since the lock in has started I have had a good deal of free time, time to also listen to a lot of education lectures etc.

What does it take to get a model produced in outside of brass?

Edit:  I am not asking about the cost of producing a model, nor am I asking what the final cost would be.

Hello all,

Im looking for input from any manufacturer, or someone with knowledge in the model railroad industry.

RADIO CONTROL FOR N SCALE

RC or Radio Controlled, It will eliminate track cleaning, save lots of wiring problems but no one seems to know anything about it.  I understand all about the batteries and controllers from model airplanes and drones.  You don't need dozens of batteries for dozens of locos, they charge relatively quickly or you can have a few ready to place in the loco if it goes down.  Why is this a secret?  Can anyone fill me in on the process of converting?

Small progress - covering the windows on the train room doors.

One of my excuses for not doing anything in my train room is because the light coming through the french door windows of the room can disturb my wife's sleep.  Our bedroom is directly across from the train room and she can't sleep with the door closed.  I had attempted to cover the windows using foam board only to discover that the foam board is not completely opaque.

After 33 years with this HO layout, I am considering starting over.

Yes, after 33 years with my HO Northern Pacific layout, I am considering starting over.  I'm considering On30, my eyes at 70 years young are not as good as they used to be and I'm figuring that a larger scale would improve my ability to see what I'm doing.  I am also considering that if I tear out my current layout, that will leave less for my two sons and wife to work on to get rid of my hobby from this house.  Having been a "Semi Prototype" modeler for 25; or, so years, I would like to revert back to freelancing.  In prototype modeling, I fou

Displaying my engines and rolling stock

I putting some photos of my new project. Displaying the trains and rolling stock. (in the lounge room)

Thought I'll start a new thread as the other one was going in a different direction.

For my display I hope to use Led light strips with dimmers 3 altogether, 2 cool light ones and a colour one at the back.

Relationship with China

The political relationship with China seems to be deteriorating rapidly, especially with our current leadership. Without getting into a political discussion of who’s right or wrong, how does one think this will affect our hobby. Do we see production shifting to another foreign entity or returning to friendly soil?
