Train songs radio show tonight 6 July 2020

Tonight from 8 to 10pm my friend Marc Miller's weekly radio show "Spam & Grits" is featuring train songs.  So, if you're like me and have trouble naming more than five train-themed songs, you might like to give it a listen.

The station is WRFG 89.3 (Radio Free Georgia in Atlanta, Georgia) and you can listen on _ wrfg.org _.

Below is part of Marc's email announcing the show today:

How to remove diecast zinc parts

Hi, Brand new here and to model RRing.  I build (and built) cars, model WWII ships (English), diecast cars, balsa/tissue planes, wooden planes and then I switched gears when I ran across an old wood/metal Pullman car that looked interesting to restore. That lead to more old kit cars, always wood/metal. Parts all over the place. I saw a project here to upgrade a diecast Mantua 4-6-2 Pacific so I got one, and a spare boiler, figuring I might screw up with grinding.

Weekly Photo Fun - Jul 5-11, 2020

It's another week . . . post 'em if you got 'em.  There were a few late-comers in last week's post.  Check them out, then come back here afterward.

Assembling a Sylvan 34’ Tandem Fruehauf Livestock Trailer

I recently purchased a Sylvan 34’ Tandem Fruehauf Livestock Trailer (Kit#T-014) . I am now in the process of assembling it. The difficulty that I am having is attaching the underframe to the body. How do I glue it to the trailer’s body? It appears that the underframe is made to be inserted inside the walls of the trailer’s body. There appears to be slot that it fits into, but by doing so, the underframe is then about 0.125” too long. If I just glue it to the bottom of the trailer’s body then it hangs down from the body.

Super elevation

So I’m at the point where I’m starting to lay track.  I have done spiral easements I’m debating superelevation.

My track is HO code 83 Peco.

What are everyone’s thoughts on superelevation?  Is it worth the trouble?  I want to have track work that is as hassle free as possible.  My layout has no grade.

I designed the layout primarily for passenger trains I have very large curves (40” minimum radius on the mainline).

Thanks all,

Mike

Beamo laser cutter opinions

I'm thinking about getting the new Beamo laser cutter, but I have zero experience with lasers, nor any experience with design software. I'm thinking I'd use it to make brick, stone, block, etc. walls; cut out window and door openings; make corbels, columns, signs, etc., etc.

Do any of you have an opinion about this machine and can you also suggest basic design software that's user (and rank beginner) friendly?

Many thanks.
