Multi-decoder decoder lock - weird results

Hi all,

I have a steam engine in which I'm using a Digitrax DZ123 decoder for motor/lighting control and a Digitrax SFX006 soundbug decoder for sound.  I'm now trying to program them using the decoder lock feature and I'm running into a couple of problems.

Deck Plate Girder Bridge

I am modeling a large deck plate girder bridge on my HO scale layout based on a prototype located on the former C&O. The girders for this bridge are huge – probably 12-ft deep and have a span of somewhere in the 100-ft range. I haven't been able to find any kits in HO scale that are anywhere near this big, so I'm turning my thoughts toward scratchbuilding it.

That led me to wondering if I could start with O scale girders. I found these O scale resin girders from Scenery Express which seem to be a good fit dimensionally...

Railroad Lettering Fonts

I would like to start decaling some of my data only cars sometime soon.   I have not been able to find pictures of freight cars (the rr I want to model was bought out in about 1901) and I probably will want to revise it's history to show it still existing in either the 1920's or 1950's.   So I will need to create my own lettering patterns - which has been fun.  Microscale shows 2 predominant alpha/number fonts -  "Railroad Roman" and "Gothic".

ATSF GP35 Weathered (Athearn RTR)

Hi all,

I finished recently the weathering and renumbering on an Athearn GP35 (RTR model, HO scale). It depicts an ATSF unit, phase I in the mid to late sixties #1327, in a rather tired condition. I haven't dealt with any detail upgrades on this one yet (MU hoses, lift rings, coupler cut bars, new couplers) and i need to change number boards to the correct new road number. Luckily the Athearn factory yellow matched the Microscale decals (and my prototype photos) and i did not need to repaint / re-decal the whole shell (which i ll need to do in my Kato units...)

Help with Tortoise frog power

Thanks for reading this. I have my SMAILs/Tortoise machines installed and programmed with my NCE system. However my frogs are not getting power? I have them wired to #4. Do I need to program a CV?
Thanks!!!

Railway Modellers Meet of BC - personal highlights

The Railway Modellers Meet of BC was held this past weekend in Burnaby at Simon Fraser University. North of 100 registrants took part in 3 days of operating sessions, layout tours, clinics and camaraderie.  I was part of the organizing committee so it was really nice to see everyone's hard work pay off.  A few of my personal highlights in the following post.

BLI shell removal

Can someone please tell me about BLI shell removal.  I have a BLI SW7 i need to remove the shell from.

Scratch bridge building

A recent purchase provided me with an bridge shaped packing piece of polystyrene, I guess in the US it is styrofoam.

We had an old back scrubber which needed replacing.  This was composed of wooden nodules which I removed before throwing the rest of the scrubber away.  I had 38 nodules and needed to complete the length of the proposed bridge.

I bought some plate girders and with some plaster soaked bandage I had enough to start.

Greenpoint Dock & Transfer Company 3.0 - Layout Design and Benchwork Construction

Third time is a charm?

After an abortive effort to build a layout in a shared playroom space I’m excited to say I’m going to have a dedicated layout space to build something that's here to stay
