Missouri, Oklahoma & Gulf RR Early Rail Boxcar

Missouri, Oklahoma & Gulf RR Early Rail Boxcar

To All: The MO&G RR was chartered in 1910. It ran from Joplin, Missouri to Denison Texas. In 1913 it was reorganized as the Kansas, Oklahoma & Gulf Rwy. I scratch build, painted and lettered the car. Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail Group Layout.

Working front couplings on steam locos

A question from the UK American Narrow Gauge modelers. A number of friends use the Bachmann, BLI, AMS and MMI products and a issue has been raised over here about working knuckle couplings on the front of locos. All the above manufacturers fit non-working couplings at the correct height which is no good for switching.

Does anyone know of a simple fix for this problem. I might add some of the guys use the Bachmann standard of HO knuckles set at the HO height whereas some of us use Kaydee 0n3 knuckles set at 0n3 height.

Back to Work... Preparing to install the BTS Coal Tipple

I've been thinking about starting a new blog topic on installing my tipple, and since all my photo links are now broken might as well get a clean start.  (Not even going to get into my thoughts on how PB managed their "transition").  For the time being I'll upload my railroad photos here on the MRH site.

One Evening Project - Portable DCC Programming Bench

When I started to build my Office Park Zone layout, I decided to replace my old Digitrax Zephyr with an NCE PowerCab. The Zephyr doesn't support functions above F9, and the PowerCab has nicer ergonomics for a small layout. While the PowerCab can handle DCC programming without a booster, it doesn't have a separate programming output, so the entire layout becomes a programming track.

modern steel utility buildings - lower height range

Can anyone point me to reference information about modern utility buildings with steel exteriors? I'm especially interested in the lower range of heights for storage, light manufacturing and warehouse structures.

Walthers sells an HO kit (Lakeville Shipping) with a brick wall about 6 feet tall and a steel wall about 24 feet tall. Pikestuff sells several HO kits that represent all steel walls - warehouse, distribution center, etc.

1) is it common to have both brick and steel like the Walthers, or is all-steel (Pikestuff) style more common?

MRH Meetup in Minneapolis on July 12th

I'm arranging a meetup in Minneapolis on July 12th 2017

My wife and I are going on a Model Railroad Road Trip that takes us through Minneapolis on July 12th.

I'd love to meet some of my MRH colleagues and their wives face to face over supper on that day.

If anyone is interested, let me know!

Turning Track Work into Fascia Panels...

This afternoon & evening has been spent trying to get the physical track work design from the layout onto a fascia panel that flows, makes sense and incorporates all the turnouts so that it will function properly...

Below are the segments of track work that needed to be added to the fascia panel for Lancaster Junction.

Making a new awning for your model railroad?

Hello

The picture is real, no photoshop at all. You can find it in Oslo, Norway. Anyway a great idea for your layout?

Best regards, Olav

LokSound Select sound file question

I just ordered a new LokSound Select decoder.  Does it come with the latest Alco sound files as shown on ESU's web site, or do I need to download and install them using the LokProgrammer?

Gorilla Glue and Extruded foam subterrain

I'm going to start gluing my extruded foam to my benchwork but I had a question. I was reading about using Gorilla Glue and I recall something about spraying the foam (or was it the glue) with water before gluing in place. I can't recall what was the best process to get the glue to work with the foam.

Any links to articles about this or information on how you did it would be great.

Thank you.

Dave
