Modeling topic
Super new! Intro and a question.
Hi all,
I'm super new to MRR and have eyed them forever, but now am in a place where I can start this hobby, both timewise, moneywise and spacewise.
I just turned 50, so I'm not young, but at least I'm proof that "new" people do still actively join the hobby! :)
I have purchased the materials for my first small scale tabletop layout (based on benchwork from the internet). It will be 3' by 5'.
This layout will be quite portable and really just a "toe in the MRR water" so to speak.
Most Overrated and Underrated Railroads to Model
Is there a railroad that you think is overrated or underrated? Modeled too often or not enough? I'd be interested in thoughts on this. My opinion:
Overrated: Union Pacific (Particularly the Transition Era)
It has boring scenery and topography along the mainline, boring paint schemes, and it swallowed up numerous smaller and more interesting railroads. There seems to be a ton of modelers out there and the only thing 90% of them model is Sherman Hill. End of rant.
Overrated Runner Up: Denver and Rio Grande Western (Narrow Gauge)

Vignettes Along the Branch Line
Hello MRH community,
I am new here; however not new to MRH. I met some of the great folks that make MRH possible at the National Narrow Gauge Convention in Denver this last September and they urged me to share my modeling and photography endeavors with the MRH community. I hope to make some new friends and continue to learn and explore our passion we all share.
Vignettes Along the Branch Line
I creates this series in an attempt to capture the Model Railroad my friend and I have been building for the last 3 years. It’s still under development however I’ve reached enough of the missions to shoot a storybook of what we call the Longmont Terminal and Northern Railroad. It is a freelance layout based on the Colorado & Southern Line from Denver to Billings with Longmont being the focus of our front range railroad and it’s rural nature found in the 1940’s-1950’s.
I will add more images in the coming weeks as I get time. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them.

Disneyland Rail
So, a few months ago, in a Photo Fun thread, we were talking about the Disneyland Railroad, and it's history...
Well, Toy Man Television just made this wonderful little piece all about the Disneyland Railroad, with a lot of history, photos, video... it's a wonderful little documentary short.

Six months in the Hobby, and my 8x4 layout is almost completed
Six months ago I began my journey in the hobby, since then I read many articles that are against 8X4 layout, in a few lines I will like to share my experience and support that this size is perfect for beginners.
The first thing that I realize that HO is the most popular scale with the big manufactures, hobby shops and even in youtube. Also that a good layout required some basic element.
2018 - 1st visitor to the layout if from Canada! I do find this fascinating
I do find this fascinating. People come to Arizona from all over the US, other Countrys and around the world for Vacation, Holiday, Business, Work etc. With the multitude of layouts in the valley.
Oak Park & Western Railway
I've started a blog over on Wordpress to document the background information and construction of my HO scale layout. I'll post brief updates on this MRH-hosted blog but the detailed entries will be at: https://opwrailway.wordpress.com

Shipyard Models
All,
Has anyone built a model from Shipyard? They are laser cut paper models, I was looking at the Alcatraz Island Lighthouse 1:87 (H0)- Shipyard ML029- Laser Cut Kit?
Thanks,
Lou

Walthers Mainline SD60
I have 2 Walthers Proto SD60's, love them, then for Christmas, I received 2 Mainline SD60's, they look great minus a few details, but the body of the locomotive is very wobbly compared to the trucks. When it starts to move, it rocks back and forth, LOTS. Is there a way to tighten up the trucks?
Wondering if anyone else has noticed this and if there's a way to fix it?

Interesting Track Plan, Castleville County
Interesting track plan of a layout that just appeared on ebay. There is a lot of train running possibilities on this relatively small layout (9.7 x 10.8). Thought it might be interesting to post, and solicit comments.
