Mascoutin Valley Railroad – End of the line

Hello Everybody!

It may come to as a shock to many of you but, I'm tearing down my Mascoutin Valley Railroad.  Its been a decision that has been weighing on my mind and frankly after the last few times operating my railroad I came to the realization that this was not what I had wanted.  Its time for a change.  Its time to take down the current layout.

Planning with the end in mind:

Current demolition

ESU Loksound- popping noise after shutdown

Hi- I installed an ESU Loksound select direct sound decoder in an Intermountain F3.  I used an ESU sugar cube 8 ohm speaker, mounted with some styrene baffles.  All normal functions seem to work fine, and the sound is very good.

Atlas?

I've been sitting on an order for about 3/4's of a Year now from Atlas. It's a Trainman GP38-2..what would be my first DCC locomotive. I already have the NCE Powercab wired up and ready to go but still running my DC locomotives with an old Model Power DC pack and a toggle from DCC to DC.

Here is Atlas's cheap looking web page for Container deliveries: http://www.atlastrainman.com/tmordership.htm

Philosophy of changing major scales

I posted this over on the Proto 48 list serve, but wanted some thoughts from people here in MRH that have had major shifts in their modeling scales over the years.
First off, I've modeled in HO, N, and large scale over the life of my modeling career. Without further ado, here is my rambling and thoughts.

Hello group,
I've been following Gene's blog for a few years now about his adventures into P48 and thought I would join this group and get some ideas/opinions.

Weathering roofs

I'm looking for tips and ideas on how to achieve the look of these rooftops.

I got a set of Pan Pastels as a gift and am eager to use them, but I think I'll practice on some plastic scraps first.

The Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad in Goldfield, Nevada

The Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad is my 10 x 18 HO depiction of southern Nevada mining railroads circa 1915.  Starting with the founding of Tonopah in 1900, the discovery of significant mineral deposits led to the development of a series of towns including Goldfield and Rhyolite south of Tonopah.

Looking for an 13' by 4' layout

Hey guys, been using model trains for years, but finally have the space for an actual permanent layout. I was wondering if any of you SCARM masters have any ideas as to what I could do? Or even a layout around that size I could work from?

Looking at a layout for passengers and freight, have a few new locos coming, so I want a decent setup now!

Thanks for any help!

Kind Regards

Dan

F-Type wall mounting for Shelf Layout Benchwork - Your advice?

Hi Everyone

To support the Kids and the teacher in our local primary school I am looking for advice how to build fast and cheap F-Type wall mounts for a modular shelf layout.

F-Type means - Two shelf for the modular layout and space below for another layout (Gauge 1) running on a podest on the floor. Upper shelf is wider than lower shelf to assure sight to the floor.

We have some "restrictions":
