LA, Pasadena & Cucamonga RR, Benchwork Update

Hi all,

After spending the holidays doing benchwork construction all day (well almost :) ), i have reached a point where the benchwork is almost finished. I need to fasten the plywood subroadbed to the risers and then off to laying some track. I have spend a lot of time in making and positioning the risers correctly so that all the pieces align correctly and the slopes are to spec.

The benchwork and legs are all coated with a sealant following good advice from Joe.

Peco code 55 switches

Hello, Sorry I'm sure this has been hashed over before but I'm a new on here and building my first new lay out in about 20 years so --- I up graded to code 55 track and it turns out all that's available is the electrofrog which is not so DCC friendly (were I believe a insulfrog would be)  What is the best option to make them workable (I didn't want them powered) as most will be in a yard ?? Thanks for your help Tom

MAKE YOUR OWN SIGNAL SYSTEM

The recent articles in MRH about signals and signal circuits have a lot of useful information.  I would like to describe some circuits that I have used on my home layout and also on the Crossroads Club layout in Vandalia OH.  Also, some homemade signals that are not super detailed but will work and are good for a limited retirement budget.  The are three parts needed for the system (1) detection , (2) signal lamp driver circuits and (3) signals themselves.  All of the circuits are from the model magazines or from the internet.  There are no computers or mini compute

San Antonio & Aransas Pass (SAAP) Railroad

Hello everyone and Happy New Year!  I am volunteering in the Milam County Railroad Museum in Cameron, Texas.  We have a layout depicting both the Santa Fe and the SAAP back in the 40's.  I am looking for model cars and locos plus any photos, artifacts etc pertaining to the SAAP.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

"Universal" Wi-Fi Throttle, Part 4

Here is a short update on the TCS WiThrottle support. I've added support for Release/Dispatch. And also preliminary support for steal, which, I believe, applies only to Digitrax systems. I'd love to hear what you guys think about stealing a loco without asking. Is that a good idea?

Atlas/Athearn BB Repowering

First off, Happy New Year to all.

I have been perusing MRH, A-Line/PPW, and NWSL sites for cross reference guides on what replacement motors work best in the older 1970/1980 Atlas and Athearn BB locos.

What combo of motor and flywheels have worked for you?   In particular I have a series of Atlas/Roco Yellow Box GP and SD units where the motors are simply worn out.   No amount of tinkering in JMRI with speed tables or pulse width modulation will get them to run quietly and at low speeds.

Winter Break 2017-18 Progress

Although I'm more one to post how-to blogs than updates, I thought I'd try to combine the two to some degree here today as I have about a week until I go back to college. I've had about three weeks off now, but unfortunately many projects only get about 50% done until I realize that I don't have an essential tool or part to complete the job.
