Bettendorf Trucks: What size wheels?

I am embarrassed  to admit that even after 20 years or so of model railroading, I don’t know anything about wheel sizes on rolling stock.  Is it right to even ask “what size wheels were used on Bettendorf trucks?”, or were all the standard wheel sizes used?  Or only a lesser number of all those available at that time?

I guess I could really use a primer on wheel sizes on freight rolling stock.

Thanks!

Repainting my LGB mogul

Hi all, I started the repaint and fixing up of my mogul.

The first step was a thorough cleaning with automotive pre-prep.

And now for something completely different!

I was all set to model the Western Maryland when I stumbled across the Maryland Midland railroad on Facebook.  That led to a whole bunch of research and the idea of modeling a modern short line evolved.  I have to say that I have been inspired by all of the very nice Iowa Interstate layouts on this website.  The tough thing is that I have no experience and very little knowledge of modern railroading and so I am on the tough part of the learning curve. I actually started in HOn3 and Sn3 and them moved to HO steam.  For the past 12 years I've been modeling th

Working on the Hitop

The other day I spent with several friends, just chit-chatting, watching some train videos, and checking out recent work on my friends layout. While there I was able to use Dave Frary’s YouTube tip on how to straighten the branches on Scenic Express Super Trees.

So home I came with a box of trees to finish adding foliage before planting, plus an extra package of Bachmann pull-apart static grass that I needed for some areas. The trees were finished yesterday, and will probably be planted today.

What year is this bus?

I got this little bus years ago, but don't know what year it is.

Mid fifties?

New switching layout, 1'x18;

Double deck - uneven deck depths?

As I design the NNE Scenic V3, I would some input on whether deck depths in a double deck should match or not.  My initial drafts have the upper deck not as deep as the lower deck around the walls, because I didn't need the extra depth on the upper deck and it would improve the viewing angle of the lower deck.  However, now I am wondering if that is a bad idea.  Are double decks better to have identical depths? Have others used a narrower upper deck than lower deck?  Pros and Cons?

Thanks,

-Ed

Planning Software

HELP! Looking for recommendations for planning software for an Apple MAC. Having a home built that will give me a 16x16 space for a layout. Projected move-in date is near Christmas, so I have plenty of time to do it right! Am thinking about a U-shaped layout with a peninsula and like so many ideas I've seen here and in other publications.

Question on simple operations

In order to have a reason for the RR,I came up with a simple operating system.

The town is on one side of the room, the small 4 track yard on the other side.

I have 16 spots to spot a car.I took plane playing cards, and marked one card for each spot.I then draw 5/7 cards, pull cars from yard, go to town and switch out the industaries. Any car already there is ready to be moved, and brought back to yard.

Here is my issue, The yard is full, where do I go with the returning cars,so is to get them back in rotation.
