Impatient? Do it yourself!

While waiting for one-day-future production of a particular tank car that served our local trade area, I found decals for the Gulf Coast Creosoting Co. from Protocraft Decals.  Realizing that I had two unassembled Proto 2000 kits for an 8,000 gallon tank car, I took the plunge, stripped off the factory lettering and painted the tank cars to match the prototype.

Spectrum 2-6-6-2 on a 2% grade

Is it even possible to get a Spectrum 2-6-6-2 to pull 10-13 coal hoppers up a 2% grade? I had planned on having a fleet of five or six of these to use as the mainstay of my coal-hauling fleet just like my protoype. I already plan on going back to the two I have and figuring how to cram weight into the steam and sand domes as well as some lead sheets to the tender for more pulling power.

I must admit I was an armchair modeler.

I must admit I was an armchair modeler for awhile.

My last HO layout was in 1978. It was in a spare room 10'x12'. Roughly based in Southern Ontario, running early steam. Then I had to move to a one bedroom apartment, so it went into boxes and into my storage locker in the apartment basement. Well, in 1980, sometime between putting the Christmas decorations in the locker and going to get the BBQ and balcony chairs in late April. I found I was victim of a burglary, the locker was bare. Luckily I had content insurance.

Odd decal

I found this odd decal going through my decal drawer.

I don't recall CNR having a black leaf angled wafer.

Op session Jun 2019 - photos and commentary

See the blog post for lots of photos and commentary from the last operating session on the layout.  This was the 2nd in as many weeks, and we had a full 7-person crew.  It was also a test of some updated paperwork and scheduling.

Redesigned harbor section of my layout

When I designed my layout 30 months ago, it was designed with operation in mind, catering for up to 6 operators and a dispatcher. After my first official operating session, I realized there was a serious design flaw in one area, the harbor. I wanted to have the water at the back of the layout, against the wall, so that I could animate a ship gently rocking with the waves in the harbor, by using a slow rotating motor, geared down even further to create a gentle up and down motion you experience when a ship is docked in the harbor.

I need a costume paint job on a UP GP-38 # 2033.  I have photos of the GP38 #2033  There only two (2) photos

GMC motor home

I saw this awesome 1973 motor home and took pics of it.

Now that would be a nice model in HO scale to add to my collection:

parts casting-what have you cast with silicone rubber?

I am starting to make a mold of skeleton logging cars with silicon molding compound. What items have you made a mold and cast the railroad car or scenery details?
