HO steam sound decoders and chuff rate
Hi everyone,
I'm at the planning stage for installing sound decoders in my HO steam engines, and have what I hope is a quick question ;)
I recently watched a Soundtraxx YouTube video describing that the Tsunami 2 decoder reads the back EMF from the motor to determine the commutator position. This way, they claim, you can set the chuff rate CV (114) at low speed and it will remain in sync at any speed.
New Day model
I purchased an HO scale 4-6-0 camelback. It is mostly cast with some brass. It is stamped "New Day Japan". I have seen these before & believe they are from the 50s. I would apreciate any info. you could give me....thanks

3D printed Arch bar trucks
My good friend 3D printed my own designed Arch bar trucks. He has a Anycubic Photon, and these are printed with the new waterbased resin.
I use Kadee HOn3 wheelsets.
Painted backdrops on textured walls
Starting the very early building process for the new layout now. The layout room has nicely done taped, textured and painted walls already that are straight and free of defects. Rather than cover them with something else and then do painted backdrops I was thinking about doing them right on the wall. It is a mild typical knockdown texture and I was thinking of doing a light skim coat to eliminate the texture before going for it.
Just wondering who has done this, what your experience has been and of course pictures are always appreciated.
Southern Pacific in Oregon
Folks,
A friend of mine who grew up in southern Oregon mentioned he can't seem to find many photos of the Southern Pacific in southern Oregon during the 1930s up to about 1955.
He is not talking about locomotive or roster type photos, Rather, he is looking for photos of yards, stations, industries, rail-scenes along the right of way in that area, etc.
I told him I would ask the question to the immensely knowledgeable crew here on the MRH Forum.
Can anybody point me/him to a source? Books, magazine issues, or on-line.

Fading Blue Paint Question
Hi folks, I am currently working on an HO scale conrail N-21 caboose, road number 21293. I have modelflex conrail blue, and have repainted the car with and air brush, preserving the decals already on the model, but when it came time fade the paint, I had some trouble. Maybe I made the wash too thin (white acrylic paint thinned with alcohol) or maybe it’s just my airbrush, but it was very uneven and was almost too white for the fade on the prototype. What do you use when fading paint, and if you've faded blue before, how so?
