Locomotive Wheel Lathe

For my On30 roundhouse I'm trying to add details that would have been common in the 1920's.  I've been able to visit roundhouses in Baltimore (Ma & Pa) and Savannah (Central of Georgia Railway) but most of my inspiration has come from internet searches.  The Savannah roundhouse had wood block floors and rectangular smoke jacks that I copied.  The Baltimore roundhouse had wooden truss framing that I used in my modified Thomas Yorke model.  I added inspection pits based on Central Pacific RR drawings.  I also added a drop pit with a hydraulic lift

Local Freight Scheduling

Another question for you real world railroaders. Given a siding serving two or more industries such that the local freight might have to pull cars from the nearest or first on the siding to serve the furthest or last on that same siding. Also realizing that freight trains didn't run on tight schedules, my question is: How was/is the movement of the cars on the siding coordinated? Obviously the cars closest to the siding turnout have to be unpopulated and secured so they can be moved then the engine arrives to serve the industries further down.

Spaghetti Bowl Layouts/Trackplans

In the past I have taken a fair bit of criticism about my latest layout construction being a classic 'spaghetti bowl' plan. Yesterday I was over at a train show near Deland FL, and i revisited the local club located there in one of the fairground's building.  My thoughts were that it might also be described as a spaghetti bowl design. One of the older lady members told me that other folks had expressed the same thoughts,...but that was no problem for other members of the club.

Kato parts

Are parts available for Kato HO diesel engines? Yesterday I received in the mail a KATO HO C44-9W CSX Dash 9 that had numerous broken sections of its handrails,...plastic ones.

I recall that there seems to be very limited (or virtually) no replacement/spare parts for our model trains these days? The importers just bring in the engines as a whole, ....but no spare parts??

Anyone suggest a good repair method for these plastic hand rails.
