Modeling topic

Traveling around the USA looking at, running and taking pictures of some Model Railroads in 2021.

Hi All,

I’m at it again this year.  No more shoveling snow (and hopefully very little coal.)

CN 57' Auto Transporter build

I recently finished a 3 car set of Sylvan Scale Models CN 57' Automobile Transporter cars.  I modified the underframe based on prototype photos I took of several cars that are still in service on the Hudson Bay Railway in northern Manitoba.  I'm quite happy with how they have turned out.

hunting oscillation

The other day I posted about freight cars both real and model that have a slight lean to them while sitting or moving on a level track. During a brief scout of photos and videos, looking for examples, I saw this instead:

Traveling Tom's video shows a couple of gondolas with some unusual action to the trucks called hunting oscillation. I wasn't familiar with the term and I don't think I've personally witnessed a real life occurrence.

Rapido Locomotive Reliability

I was wondering what everyones thoughts are on Rapido's Locomotives QC and reliability?  It seems they have been a bit of a hit or miss, even within a model.  Have things gotten any better?

I was looking at the M420 model.

Help, DCC Control Center (3 decks, multiple districts)

Help, DCC Control Center (3 decks, multiple districts)

I have a wireless NCE Pro system I intend to install on my double deck HO layout. I don't imagine I will be running any more than 4-5 trains at anyone time, and likely it will only be 2 most of the time. There will likely be some double-headers, or even some push-pull.

With a 5amp power supply most recommended by NCE I don't think I will need additional boosters?

roof caps, and roof soffits? Advice needed

I'm beginning to make some structures for my layout and finding many of my kits have poor model roofs. Feeling that roofs are so visible and thus important, I intend to replace with sealed seam metal roof and asphalt roof sheets from Evergreen, Micromark, respectively.

Question though: How do you experienced modelers solve for the roofcaps necessary on these roofs, how do you fabricate the roofcaps and what strip styrene do you use? (I'm modeling in styrene, not wood).

Help Opening Bachmann Spectrum Tende

I have a Bachmann Spectrum tender.  How to I get it open.  The exploded diagram shows that the rear shell is hooked under the bottom.  How do I release the front end?
