Need help identifying horn. NS ex SOU sw1500
Can anyone help me identify this horn? It is on an NS ex SOU sw1500 I am working on. Thank you!
I have a few,(3) 36 in. x 96 in. lengths of 1/4 inch cork.
I have some 1/4 inch cork rolls, about 10' long. Is there a way to make a little fixture, or is there one available, so as to cut the 45 degree sides? Just wondering. I am sure I can cut them into strips, and they are a bit too high scale wise, but, It would save me some money...
Thanks in advance!!

Once upon a time it was steam locomotives, after comes diesel,
By these uncertain future and all the threads about it, where nobody has the answer, there is another one.
During around more than a century steam was the power to use to move trains.
Because of WW II the replacement of steam by diesel was delayed a bit.
Since around 70 years diesel power is king of the road.
In early 2000 basic diesel evoluted with low emission motors; some companies are still changing motors for the least generation of low emission diesel motor.
Break in engine on rollers or figure 8 of track?
I have an old Bachmann Spectrum GE 44-Ton that I want to clean, lube and get running well. Does not appear to have run much if at all. Can I break it in by running it on rollers, or should I find a way to create a figure 8 of track and run it around in circles to break-in the truck swing too? It is DC, for a small switching layout. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

HO scale axle size chart
There has been discussion on another thread about axle length for HO scale replacement wheelsets so I thought that we could use this thread to input our findings.
Once we have a good sampling that is out there, it will be easier to compile a list and have it available to all forum members.
So please chime in with results.

Middle School Model Railroad:quarantine quandary
Today, Monday March 16, students stayed home from school while the faculty and administration figured out how we would continue the school year under challenging circumstances.

IAIS's West End - Sitting still can be fun
As many of us adjust to the Coronavirus and its accompanying "social distancing", e.g. working from home, avoiding crowds, etc., I thought I'd post a reminder that occasionally taking a break and sitting still - whether we're talking about us as layout owners or the prototype equipment we model - can be positive too.
ME vs Peco code 83 differences
So - I was laying out some Peco switches, spacing them with Micro Engineering rail (both Code 83) and found out that the ME has a smaller overall profile but a slightly larger web. Result: rail heads don't line up, and the ME will not go easily into Peco rail joiners. Guess I have to find some Peco rail stock... or cut up Peco flex...
Any ideas?
