Construction Cranes, models and images please

Back when I first re-entered the hobby, the modular concept was really ramping up. Folks where constructing modules with all sorts of individual themes. One that came to my mind was a powerplant scene/module. I had written,...

The power plant subject came up on another thread just recently, and that is what prompted me to look back for this posting. I just don't recall seeing a lot of good power plant scenes that might cover a broad era of their use.

Starting to Finish

the shelf layout I started 3 years ago. That's correct, three years of "work" are shown in the first two pictures. Not very proud of that. Most people would have done this in the first couple of days. Now that I'm working from home for the next two weeks, then on forced vacation for the third week, I may get more done, as the commute time is cut back to <30 seconds.

Now I just need to find out how to post the pictures in the Body.

Charlie Comstock and backdrop painting

At the 2nd Division PNR meet last month, Charlie Comstock gave a very informative clinic and demonstration on how he paints the backdrops on his Bear Creek & South Jackson RR.

We got it all on video. I do apologize if it's a bit rocky at points, the video was primarily there to put  a close up view on the projector for all to see.

Static grass without a static grass applicator

Looking for recommendations on what you guys use instead of static grass, to get the same look as static grass. I tried used some ready made grass and weed tufts and in the right place, they do the job. But I'm wanting to create some rarely used sidings that have grass and weeds growing in them. So they cant be too high or too stiff, since I do want to occasionally run a car or two on that siding.

Need some great ideas.

Suydam HO Barton Flats Lumber Mill Construction

I'm just breaking into the 'vintage Suydam HO Barton Mills Lumber Mill kit. I'd like to hear about the experience other modelers have had with this great kit. I'm particularly looking for information and techniques about finishing and weathering the heavy corrugated metal. What say you? Thanks for your help.

What's been running on your railroad?

It seems we've had some extra time to work on and play with trains.  What's running on your railroad?

Here's what ran on mine this weekend, starting with an SD40-2 sandwich on GP39Es.  The GP39Es are GP30s rebuilt by BN in the early 1990s.  The models are Proto.

This Stay at Home is Working Fine - Learned Something New about my Camera

After a getting a used Canon 50D two years ago, I just discovered there is a neat preset available. When I use it for layout pics, I set it for an aperture of 22 for maximum depth of field, ISO 1000 to shorten exposure time, and a custom white balance to correct color. Invariably, when I go outside or take other kinds of pictures, I forget to reset the camera for more general purposes. So I usually mess them up, then when I go back to layout pics, I forget one or more settings.

Walthers Layout Control System -- Switch Machine Horizontal Mount

I am not sure if this is failing to plan or planning for failure ..
I am using the Walthers Layout Control Systems switch motors that arrived yesterday. I looked them over..built the system to test out how they worked and put them back in the box. However something didn't seem right
