Painting Alternatives

Okay, since I have more than enough time for projects, I am woking on adding to my fleet of NKP cabooses. However, I do not have the ability die to lack of supplies to use my airbrush on the plastic parts before assembly.

Does anyone have any tips on using/thinning/alternative mixing of Testors or other brand paints to apply with a soft brush? I have several kits to assemble and can spare one with slightly warped sides to experiment on. Have at least 30 days to work on technique - LOL!

Stay Safe. Stay Home. Work on Trains.

Which DCC sound decoder will fit in a MTH DCC-ready GP-38?

I have a couple of Maryland Midland MTH GP-38's that are DCC ready.  Because most of MTH's engines have their own proprietary DCS system there isn't much information about the DCC-ready versions.  I cannot find anything from TCS, ESU or Soundtraxx about which decoder they recommend for these engines.  Based on a few reviews and the manual, it shouldn't be too hard as there is a 8 pin plug, but there is little other information.  I'd like to put something with a good sound and a Keep-alive.  Any experience or thoughts?

Fantastic Steel (and layout) Video

Sure gives folks an idea of how the USA produced all that steel that was needed to build that huge amount of war material and vehicles needed for WWll ,...and not just against one enemy, but 2 enemies spread across the world. WOW !!

(this video is really well done)

Power to the people

Well being cooped up with this virus has made me think I'm attention deficit as I bounce between projects. I actually started rebuilding a portion of the layout that I considered done. As part of this I needed some high-voltage power poles. I wanted the Z-shaped poles you see a lot in the midwest, couldn't find them, so out came the printer.

Converting a Athearn HO scale Trainmaster from DC to DCC Truck Issue?

Hi,

I'm in the process of converting my Athearn Blue Box Locomotives from DC to DCC. I have a HO scale Athearn Trainmaster I have a issue with. The trucks are made out of diecast material and my decoder is getting heated up pretty quickly. I am using a DH126D Digitrax / Mobile Dcdr 2FX 1/2-Amp . Does anyone know if there is a plastic version of the trucks? The diecast part number is ATH 43016 and ATH 43017. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Rapido FA-2 Questions and first impressions

Received the Rapido FA-2 from my local hobby shop.

One observation, one question:

The newest project: A demolished factory (Day 3 Update added)

Although the "In the Meantime" layout is supposed to be temporary, it's looking more and more like it may end up a permanent layout. So I've decided to go ahead and actually start working on it to make it look more permanent. This first picture shows a problem right off. Because of the way the track is laid out, there is a large blank area right in front. Now adding another industry right there would totally block the view of the turnouts and hand throws right behind.
